I have searched for solid info on this topic but have not found anything that effectively satisfies my curiosity.

Swim used Oxycodone for a year, built up a hefty tolerance level. Average intake during this period was roughly 100 to 200mg of usage per day, with a peak intake period of roughly 300 to 400mg's for a three week period before dropping it ice cold turkey.

After the cold turkey drop there was absolutely no usage whatsoever for a six month period.

Now on a second usage period, switching between 100mg a day of oxycodone and periods of suboxone use.

PRIMARY INQUIRY: If swim stops using altogether for a month and then decides to go on another period of usage, does his tolerance drop back to baseline or has it been permanently changed?

Has use of Oxycodone permanently affected his brain chemistry?

All I can say is from personal experience. There are definately permanent changes that occur. There's like 2 forms of tolerance that develop. One, is the day to day tolerance that goes up and up and if you quit for a while it goes down.

But then there's the tolerance that develops that seems permanent. An example of this is that I went 4 years clean once. The first time I took some Oxy I got very high. But within 1 to 2 weeks I was right back to where I was 4 years before. It's like you never get to go back to where you once were. You can get it down for a few good highs but once your tolerance has been way up there it will go back up there fast when you start using again.

I'm not sure why... Some smart person here can explain the receptor thing...

Think of it like a sock who's elastic is stretched just a little too much. You can still wear it but it will never be as comfortable as it was on the day you bought them.
That's the best analogy I could come up with off the top of my head but I think it works.

Same overhere. It feels like your brain is trained! And there you go, back on your old dose.
