Is there a limit to how much class II and class III medicines a doctor can prescribe? I have heard of people being on 4-6 80's a day on top of other class II drugs!!!! How can this be?

no limit, excessive prescribing will make the dea take an extra look but as long as it is on the up and up and the patient has climbed the analgesic ladder and has a tolerance it will be cool!!

^^^ That's right. There are certain requirements, if you will, as far as having a genuine problem and moving up the ladder - as Strikks mentioned. But I'm on two CII meds and 1 Benzo. The bad thing about that is you've got to be in a lot of pain to get there and I wouldn't wish that on any one.
Hey Oxydust - How's your dad doing? I hope he's OK.

Hey Oxydust - How's your dad doing? I hope he's OK.
He says he's not doing too bad but he is down to 1 OC 80 and 1 Roxicodone 30 a day but he says he's not doing too bad! On thursday he will get his refill and be just fine.:) He has to bring the rest of his meds in on thursday for a pill count (he has to bring in two days worth) but said the last time he had a pill count the doctor didn't even look in the bottles and he had the bottles in his hand when the doctor walked in! thanks for asking...

No limit, A DR friend was telling me how the DEA has been over the top like never before. It scares many good Dr's from doing what they think is best.

I had a good discussion with my father last night, who is a Podiatrist and Pharmacist (currently he does not practice as a Pharmacist) about what opiates/opioids he prescribes these days. He said all he will prescribe to any of his patients is at most 30 Hydrocodone or Oxycodone 7.5mg per month and also a Demerol pill with some anti-histamine in it or something. Oh yeah, then he mentioned that he had one patient on 2mg Hydromorphone pills and I mentioned the IV abuse potential of Hydromorphone. Then he told me thank you for telling him about the IV abuse potential of Hydromorphone (sorry somebody is not going to get dillies from their doc soon).
Basically, he is very cautious of the DEA, and of which of his patients are seeking more drugs because of tolerance or because they want more drugs to get high.
But then as far as his surgery patients he prescribes much better stuff, or just refers them to a pain clinic if they will take the patient.
The basic impression from the whole conversation is that he hates to have patients on long acting CII narcotics, due to fear of the DEA.
Fuck, my dad (like many docs) will just go off on how the DEA DOES NOT KNOW SHIT ABOUT PAIN AND PAIN MANAGEMENT-it's fun to listen to
