I've been seriously considering jumping on a plane and moving to Vancouver lately. The heroin is plenty, excellent quality and cheap (heard its a junkie's paradise). I'm on methadone maintenance right now and its just not doing it for me. I'm young (23 as of today) and won't come back if I go. I don't really have anything holding me back (alienated from the family, no girlfriend). If I go I'll probably end up a homeless street junkie (only difference now is I'm a methadone junkie in a house). Once I start shooting up again my tolerance will be through the roof as I'm on 130mg methadone/day. If money wasn't an issue I'd be there already. Any thoughts, suggestions?

If you have enough money to support yourself and your drug habit then I don't see why not. Are you really rich or something? It doesn't sound like you plan on getting a job or working when you get there.

No, not rich, I'd look for a job out there to feed the habit.

and if you did you would always have OTC codeine as a backup... seems like a a pretty good way to go.

^^ Man, we get otc codiene here and it's way over rated. Poppy seeds are a much better bet.

And to the OP, sounds like you've already decided you're gonna fuck your life up if you make the move.

Well to me it a no brainer. I LIKE LIVING IN A HOUSE!
Stay where you are. What may seem cheap now, won't be a year from now, tolerance, etc. not to mention the possibility of CT in jail.

you are young and unfettered -plenty of time to be stable, responsible and tied to a material life later

i think more people end up regretting the things they did not do rather than the things they did
( although junkies may be the exception)

follow your whims and have a blast

That part of Canada is not a frozen tundra, it's fairly temperate.

Anyway, the only way I would do it would be if I had a lot of money saved up or a job lined up(and still, a little extra money). Do you have any qualifications that will allow you to go ahead and look for a job there? Do you have a job here? If so, start saving money if you really want to do it; if not, get a damn job!

There is a lot more to moving over there than you've likely considered, so be patient and do your research. And get a damn job! :D

changing your place of residence and moving out of the country for the right reason is one thing, but simply b/c heroin is available cheap and plentiful??

doesn't sound like it would work, honestly. there are many many places in the united states where heroin is both cheap and plentiful, not to mention high quality.

instead of moving all the way to Canada, why not do some research and see where in the US you may be able to have the same benefits (for example think about New York or New Jersey--2 states that have the best quality and prices for heroin than anywhere else in the country)

also, think about the other things you may need in order to live. not to merely "exist" but to live life, you know what i mean? get a plan. think about what kinds of stuff you are good at so you can set up employment and things like that. have something waiting for you, and then, by all means, make the move...

but don't just pick up and leave simply b/c it sounds like the cool thing to do...definitely set up employment, look into places to live (and it doesn't have to be super-expensive; there are many options available that cost less, and will allow you to keep your dignity, check it out) and then, once you know you will be *set* then by all means, go ahead and do it..

my 2 cents

Thats very true. I have made 2 major moves (>1000miles) in the last 1.5 years, and you can vever be prepared enough. Scrape and save until you think you have the money, then triple it. There is always shit that comes up during a move that you cant anticipate.

man stop talking about it and fucking do it. as for being homeless, you gotta work and pay bills no matter where you go. when you get there, suck it up, take a job washing dishes (fastest job available), and start looking for something better.

the trick is to not wait to work. just get something.

you can also always find houses where young transients live when they first move to a city like that. you just have to be flexible, adaptable, and social.

and not mind working.

i moved here and there when i was a little younger (still move around some today) and i enjoy it. i highly recommend a new scene if you have access.

Can an American citizen just move to Canada and start working? Aren't there labor laws against such things? I'm pretty sure you can't just come to the U.S. and start working from Canada, and I'm fairly certain you need work visa's and such even if you *could* find a job.

Better think this through. Be safe!

Thanks for all the posts. For those that didn't notice I already am a Canadian citizen living in Ontario, Canada, just thinking of moving to Vancouver (west coast). Right now I live on the eastern side closer to New York state, right in between all the Great Lakes. For all those posting Canada is tundra right now I live 1 hr from Buffalo and 3hrs from Detroit so the climate is similar to those cities. The climate in Vancouver however is much warmer (just checked a weather website in Vancouver it's 8 degrees celsius- thats 46 fahrenheit for those in US). In comparison to where I live now it's minus 8 degress celsius or 18 fahrenheit. So its much warmer and the drugs are cheaper there. I would move to Pakistan or Afghanistan but those place aren't safe to us westerners, Nick. Thanks opiophiles, keep the suggestions coming.

For all those wondering Vancouver dope is around 80% so its pretty damn good and cheap $40-$100 per gram and pills are much cheaper. A dilaudid 8mg goes for $3 same with morphine 100mg. I read that at one point 75% of all SEA dope entering North America was coming in through Vancouver.

I think you mean SEA dope. South East Asian not South American. Makes more sense don't it? I say go for it. I'm seriously considering going to SEA and teaching english. Gotta get off these subs (maybe?) and save $ first.

However, don't go there planning on being a homeless junkie. Thats just dumb.

Been looking at airline tickets around $250 and backpacker hostels around $120/week. Probably go in a couple weeks. Bring enough methadone just in case. Anyone know a quick way to get rid of methadone tolerance? Looks like a cool place to go.
