Demerol compared to other Opiates

When I was opiate naive I took 50mg of Demerol orally and had a good rush. That was ten years ago before I had a habit. I'm currently on 80mg of methadone a day. I'm not wanting to get high off of Demerol, I was just curious.

A few years ago when I was snorting a couple OC 80s a day I ran out and snorted some Mepergan (Demerol & Phenergan). I snorted around 3 of them, despite the burning sensation. It took some of the sickness off. Though Phenergan has always sedated me. I was unable to compare the effects of Demerol to other opiates.

To those who have experience with Demerol what would you compare it to? As far as feeling? And mg/dosage?

The Narcotic Dosage Converter said that 50mg of Oral Demerol (Meperidine) is equal to 5mg of Hydrocodone or 3.33mg of oral oxycodone. Is this other peoples experience?

i dont think most people on here like it to get high....
i had no idea it was that weak by the way...now i see why they hate it

I think Demerol has a buzz all it's own. I use to like it alot

but then it got to weak for me and the muscule jerks got

real bad. Switched to MS.

A few Hospitals stopped giving Demerol recently. I forgot to ask why anyone know?

Yeah it's different from most opiates/opioids. It is shorter acting and it has more toxic effects, like I think it causes seizures in higher doses, among other things. It used to be used a lot by doctors, but it has been used less and less recently.

I think i heard something about Demerol being able to somehow get by the blocking effects of methadone better than the other opiates/opioids. I could be wrong though. I do know that being on methadone puts you at a higher risk of having seizures from high doses of Demerol, I remember reading that in a few places. Be careful if you end up taking some.

Demerol converts into norpethidine. Norpethidine is toxic and has convulsant and hallucinogenic effects. It's half life is 8-12 hrs and the accumulation of it can lead to renal failure. Demerol also has serious reactions that can be fatal with other medications, more so than any other opiate.

I think Demerol used to be used as a first line narcotic in most ER's. You could almost always depend on getting an IM shot of it if you went to the ER with legitimate pain. I always found it to good that way, but that was before I had any kind of tolerance. I would be interested too in knowing why its being left on the shelf in hospital settings.

I'm almost positive it has to do with Renal failure like ^^ said, Yea I remember it being given to me after having a hernia OP, at the time they thought it was a great drug ,I did to. It started out as a alternitive to Morphine for the 1 out of 100 who had some bad reactions, alergys and stuff. This is very recent past 8 months or so, no more Demerol given no matter what. It could be selective though. You know those big bad drug companies keep pumping what sells no matter what.

My mom's a nurse and she told me they used to have a problem with people on Demerol wanting to get up an dwalk around and that it makes some people act kinda nuts.

In some people (like me) Demerol only serves to make the body hypersensative to pain.
I got it once and was screaming in pain ten minutes later.
It was so bad I was moved back into ICU and put into a coma (again).

Keep that shit away from me.

That so funny when I woke up the night of the OP I was in alot of pain I was maybe 15 I couidn't get to the Bathroom the RN came in and gave me a IM in my arse, 10 minutes latter I was like Whoop there it is- I wanna dance to the bathroom. It was 5 feet from my bed a few minutes before I couldn't move a musscle. 25 years ago and I just remembered that.
