Hello everyone,
I am new here and very glad to have been accepted as a part of this wonderful community. This is my first forum because up until scag's message I didn't really have a comprehensive reply ready to type out.....that, and i am mildly lazy. ANYHOW, I was wondering about that sensation of anxiety/doom/panic feeling. I used to take a lot of LSD and mushrooms and have felt that from time to time, on or off the stuff. But NEVER from an opiate or opioid related substance, until I started bupe. After attending a methadone clinic for the better part of a year in Seattle, WA, I moved back to my home state of Michigan and have been on bupe ever since. (since last june so almost a year) Although it HAS been a complete MIRACLE drug for me and a close friend, this is my second round with bupe, now that I can afford it again. I was on it about 2 1/2 years ago for a total of 6 months, only to move out to Seattle and make the mistake of getting on liquid methadone, only then to get back on bupe. That being said, I really never felt anything CLOSE to some of the massive panic attacks I have had since getting back on it. I agree, however, that they really havent happened hardly at all since I went from the initial 12 mg's down to the current 4 mg's I am on now. I just wanted to give a little of my own personal background before asking why this occurs (if anyone out there knows) and if this is common for most people on bupe. Hope someone can dig up some info for me.....peace out!

I replied to your other post. But if you search around on this forum you'll see that a lot of people claim to feel better on doses in the 2-4 mg range. Exercise might even be an option to burn off some of that extra energy that goes toward worrying about stuff.
Also, I've noticed my blood pressure has gone up while on bupe [about a year now] Used to be consistently around 120/70... now its around 140/80... Can't say for sure if its the bupe, but I suspect it is.

my old sub doc used to give clonidine, xanax, and ambien with subutex to combat all the side effects of quitting. So probably theres a lot they dont tell us about bupe.

Never felt anxious on bupe but then again I had some anxiety BEFORE bupe for which I take clonazipam. Problem is most bupe doctors won't script a benzo (or even allow it) since they think you'll get addicted (or are addicted) to them. I myself was always an opiate lover - benzos were never my thing (until I overdid it a little a few weeks ago, another story told elsewhere here). But overall, I take my clonazipam as scripted by my psych doctor (not sub doc). Sub doc and I have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy know about the benzos. He knows, but doesn't approve.
Did you go look at the naabt.org board? Lately I sound like I'm advertising for it (I most definitely am NOT) but it is "all bupe all the time, 24/7" and people on that board report anxiety from bupe. It would be interesting if you posted your question there also and see what you get back.
but then also think about it - why did people get addicted to opiates in the first place? For me, "regular" full opiates helped my anxiety tremendously - made me more talkative, social, etc. Same with helping my depression. I am sure that is a major cause of my addiction.
So maybe it isn't the bupe that is CAUSING anxiety - maybe it is the absence of your old DOC. I suppose it's the same difference
But no, bupe since Aug 07 does not cause me any particular anxiety, except that I hate being on it for other reasons. But it sure works to stop cravings and block other opiates!

Sorry for another quick post - how much are you on daily?
The less you can get by with the better.
Doctors start (or at least keep) people WAY too high. Some habits do require it, but few really do. IMHO at least. I started at 24 mg and got down to 8 and then 4-6mg daily with no problem.
It will be the last 2.0mg and below that will be the hardest. And longest.

Don't know about bupe but I feel anxious usually everyday, and the only time I dont have feelings of ddom is when I'm high on an opiate.

My anxiety was already bad but I masked it with opiates, now that I'm on bupe I'm noticing it again and I don't know if thats just me getting back to normal or the bupe is making it worse.
Oh, btw where in mich are you from?

the anxiety is probably from the opiate buprenorphine's mother which it was derived "THEBAINE" is a very stimulating opiate analogue thus possible anxiety, I get alprazolam (TAFIL/XANAX) to combat the edginess as I tell my doctor that I receive with suboxone, and I don't shoot scag and I don't even think we have subutex because of all the abuse in France, it's either not available or my doctor will give nothing but suboxone!! I have no track marks btw
