This is a link to an article about how Heroin addicts are treated in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Yekaterinburg is Russia's fifth largest city, with 1.3 million people. In many cities in the Russian Far East, Heroin is sold for as cheap as 10$ per gram.
This article was written in 2000, but some of the "Cities without Drugs" programs have continued. I believe that some of the original founders have been arrested though.

This thread should probably be moved to the media forum, but oh well. Here is another article with pics of the same town. This one says that they ask heroin addicts to handcuff themselves to their bed when they detox. Then when they are done, unless they are diabetic or have AIDS or something similar, they are fed a diet of strictly bread and water. Fuck that!! I would OD on purpose before I did that shit.

Thank you for replying and sharing this link. Sorry, I wasn't sure where to post this.
Your link is a lot better than the one I found. It is of interest to me because I am studying Russian language and culture in school. I am researching a link between Tajikistan and Yekaterinburg, in terms of the flow of Heroin: south to north in this area. Your info was very helpful.
Also, I encourage anyone who reads this to please reply, as any information and opinions are a huge help. Thank you.

No problem. I saw your post and remembered seeing another article about the same thing. That is a pretty harsh way to get clean. But I bet it gives you a lot more motivation to stay clean than going to Betty Ford where you have jacuzzi's, gourmet food and it's like a fuckin' vacation at a country club, not a rehab. Shit, if they handcuffed me to a bed to kick and then fed me bread and water, i would think twice before relapsing.
