I did. Easy as hell. You dont need to wait at all, except that you won't feel your dose if you take it too soon, but if its for maintenance, this doesn't matter at all.
It's nearly impossible to say for sure, but if you are at 8mg or less/day of subs, i'm sure 30mg of methadone (what they give you day 1 at the clinic) would hold you. Maybe not for 24 hours, but close enough.
I cant answer the question about gettin off/noddin out because I dont know- I just dont take my methadone like that- I try to take the absolute minimum amount.
Are you going on maintenance or just trying to get high?
If your going on MMT, chasing the methadone high will leave you completely fucked, on a massive dose of methadone, experiencing major side effects, drowsy all the time, not able to feel your DOC, constipated as hell, and you will have a hell of a time coming off eventually.
There are better ways to get high every day than taking a high dose MMT

If he wanted to give you pain relief with bupe he shoulda put you on temgesic. Quack. Take his methadone but double-check everthing this moron crackerjack diploma doc says.

Switching from subuxone to methadone is no problem, the other way around is.
I did both: first I switched from methadone to subs (had been on methadone for 25 years). This was a tad bit rough because I needed to wait 3 whole days before taking my first sub.
I was on methadone for pain but unfortunately subs didn't work, no matter how much I took: I have been on both 24 and 8 mgs of subuxone.. but nothing did the trick.. Instead I was in even more pain on subs than I had ever been before on a low dose of methadone, especially muscle and jointpains.
So, after 10 sleepless and fairly unpleasant weeks I decided to switch back to methadone again. By that time I was on 12 mgs of subuxone.
First I waited 24 hours, which is no problem because most people take their methadone once daily anyway.
But, due to the blockingeffect, it didn't do shit. I remember I DID get a little pineyed. I took about 25 mgs of methadone that first day but no effect whatsoever: no warm feeling, nor less pain.
It wasn't until the third day that I finally started to feel the methadone (and that was sheer bliss, I could feel the pain oozing away and I finally had a night of decent sleep..).
So what it comes down to is: switching from subuxone to methadone is no problem, only downside is that it doesn't work right away. That might depend on your dose too. If you're on a low dose, say 1 or 2 mgs of subuxone, and take 30 mgs of methadone it'll probably be enough to break through the little blocking effect of such a low dose.
But be careful not to take too much methadone on the first day: although you don't feel it right away it does work so by taking too much you could risk an OD.
About subuxone and pain: I too was very disappointed in subs. Subuxone really does nothing for pain, except maybe in opiatenaive individuals. My doctor told me it would help and I went through a lot of trouble to make that switch in the first place (tapering from 60 mgs to 10 mgs of done and then waiting for 3 more days isn't exactly great fun...).
On the other hand, like DF said, methadone isn't the answer to my prayers either.. living a numb and constipated life isn't what I had in mind for the rest of my days so now I'm doing a taper once again..
and so the endless story continues, the perpetuum mobile of a life on metadone..

I'd love to be on methadone and might be soon, I just got my DEUROgesics changed to 72 hours without any notice even though my physician said it was alright with 48 even though she wrote 72 and told me to come back in 20 days and now is telling me I must suffer with my breakthroughs because the apotheke (pharm) didn't like the fact that this doctor was rxing me 48 hours and revoked my script and only gave me 5! This 5 with 48 hours was due days ago and now I can't receive my fent until the end of the fucking month, can you believe this!?
I want to get on methadone for pain and for dependency, I'd kill for it! Does anyone in the states get RXd methadone in month or bi monthly bottles for dependency or just for pain? Sorry for my hijack and rant but this fent depression is making me very very down! Time to take alprazolam and chug German beer.......................................

ive heard of doctors writing for both dependancy and pain, but you have to have chronic pain with the dependancy. if you cant prove pain then you will end up at a meth clinic. i cant take that clinic bullshit. tried it twice and didnt last more than 2 weeks at both. having to wake up and go get dosed everymorning is complete bullshit. especially if you have a job or go to school. the doctors are being really strict in the us with c2 medicines.

The least amount you could wait is about 24 hours which when you do switch you won't feel much but you will feel a little better on that 25th hour. If you really want to notice the switch you need to wait 48-72 hours as there is still bupe in your system from the previous days but you shouldn't have to suffer that long. I have switched at 24 hours a few times no complications but when I wait a full 2 days or more I "notice" the methadone. Switching FROM methadone to bupe is different though. You have to wait a little longer depending on the amount of methadone your on. Hope this helped. - Kil
