It works for me. I notice a definite increase in buzz, euphoria, and duration of my pod high when I take 100 mg DXM. Moreso than cimetadine or antihistamines.

I'd guess that DXMs NMDA antagonism increases the buzz, and it's inhibition of dopamine and serotonin reuptake adds to the euphoria.

It DOES add noticeable feelings to the high that are decidedly non opiate at the dose I'm using, so if you're a complete opiate purist I can see why you wouldn't like it. But for me the added buzz and euphoria outweighs the mild nonopiate feeling it adds - it still feels mostly opiate to me.

Dosing racemethorphan would probably be cool... opiate (LVM) with DXM built in as a potentiator.

Just curious... what's the best otc brand for DXM?? Wikipedia lists 14 brands, and I was just wondering who had the best experiences, and with which brand.

Thx,

I'd go with robogels, brand or generic. Sorry it took so long for you to get an answer.

I agree, DXM is a great potentiator in my opinion! I don't use quite as high of a dose as you do though. I use somewhere between 60mg and 75mg.

And you are right about the other mechanisms of action of DXM contributing, but I think the most important one is the NMDA receptor antagonist helping to keep tolerance as low as possible!

And ND, I agree with resorcinol: The robotussin cough gels (or the store brand generic) are probably the best in my opinion. They have 15mg per each gel with no other ingredients.

I really just discovered DXM as a potentiator, 2 weeks ago. I never really thought an otc med could at all be so potent. But I found it really quite strong. I think I over did it a bit so I got quite a few of the non-opiate effects, but I did not find them that unpleasant and it didn't fully over-power the opies as well which was good. Not something I would turn into an everyday type thing, but definitly enjoyable.

Havn't tried it again since, but DXM is something I will keep on the back burner for times I am low, or jwhen I ust want a bit of a change.

Pretty cool stuff!!

I'm curious, norseman, what were the non opiate effects you got?

Well from what I can remember, I was feeling a little "disconnected" just not quite like myself, and was having bit of trouble focusing my thoughts ect. It took away that nice warm/comfortable/ at home feeling I get with pure opies, not fully but it definitely was a bit more edgy. Also I had a bit of dizziness if I can remember correctly and I definitely was having more problems focusing and blurry vision.

One thing I do remember, was I did not like it when it was first starting to kick in, and I thought to myself "You just wrecked you night" but once I had peaked and plateaued I actually did enjoy the mix.

Still these side effects were not that bad and certainly not to the point I would never consider playing around with it again. I just think next time I will be more cautious with my dose and try and find a happy medium.

if i may...

discombobulation comes to mind as a word that describes the higher doses of DXM. i actually tried it for the first time in REHAB of all places, and went to group therapy tripping my nuts off... true fucking junky, i'll say.

those were the younger days of my use. i can't really trip anymore. i can 'disassociate' and would in fact feel indebted to anyone that could magically transmit a few doses of ketamine (i've never done it, and i wanna!)... but i think my days of full-blown hallucinations are perhaps over.

or at least the chemically-induced ones. i've stumbled upon a few less-than-real images and sounds in some of my journeys into my mind etc. but no more on purpose, i'd say.

never tried DXM besides some desolving cough tabs, didn't do shit. Have to look for the robo-type. NEway, just railed an oxy and even @ 10mg they give a pretty good kick, hehe. Sorry for thread highjack, anyway, I'll look for the robotussin cough gels next time @ at the store.

Thx!
