View Full Version : My Leg... Missed Shot... Please Advise

Okay, so I tried to shoot in the back of my leg, behind the knee into a big vein on the calf muscle. (I didn’t want tracks on my hands or arms.)
I registered okay, but about 1/3 into the shot I realized I was missing. I thought fuck it, and kept going. It was only one bag.
It didn’t hurt or swell, it just got a little red.
Twenty-four hours later, the site is a circle about 3 inches in diameter, red, and pretty painful to touch, muscle flexing, or just walking.
What should I do?
Will this go away on it’s own, or am I in trouble here?

Had the same thing happen to me a few times. Thankfully no abcess. If it gets worse make sure you see a doc and get that shit taken care of though. A guy I know lost his right arm from missing.

You can try putting a hot compress on it to help the swelling go down..

yeah, watch that carefully over the next couple days... if it is becoming an abcess you will know trust me, the pain and swelling become unbearable... trace the outline of the area with marker and monitor, if it gets bigger, if it gets hot to the touch, gets very very painful, or you notice red streaks forming from the bump head to the doctor asap. blood infections are no joke, can easily spread to ones heart, to say nothing of losing the leg.

I'm watching the leg closely...
It's hot to the touch and pretty painful, but not too bad.
I'm hoping it'll just go down on it's own.
Assuming it doesn't and I do have an abcess, other than "I missed my shot," what possible explainations can I offer to my doctor/friends?
What else causes abcesses like this?

ive had two, i always went to the doctor acting like i had no idea what happened... they attributed it to a bug bite and once to an infected ingrown hair. luckily for you its on the back of your leg so it doesnt look too suspicious unless you have a bunch of tracks visible there or elsewhere. just play dumb, youll be in enough to pain to not have to fake discomfort... heck i even got some hydros out of one abcess...

Tell them you were cleaning out your basement or some other storage area. You backed into something and felt a sharp poke in the back of your leg. Then say you never gave it any more thought until it started hurting etc... It will work.
Any poke into you dermis can cause an abscess. It doesn't have to be a needle. It just has to be something that's carrying bacteria/germs. I don't shoot and I got a mild one, caught it quickly, in my thigh from and old rusty wire poking me. Depending on the circumstances it doesn't take much.
My only suggestion to you would to be try and stick to your prescribed meds for a while just to see how this will turn out. A lot of times if there's any doubt about validity the ER doc will order drug screen. As long as nothing is in there that shouldn't be - you're cool.

I once got celluliteous from injecting Winstrol-V (steroid) into my thigh. I told my doctor exactly what i had done, as the infection was about 10 inches in diameter and extremely hot. I can't advise you on what to say, but if it is serious, like in you might loose your leg, be honest, and save your leg. Just my 2 cents. Good luck

Uncle wiggly's story is the one I used, and I got a script for a bunch of Clindamycin and some lortabs for pain. My tricep was swollen and infected from a dirty IM shot of Test Enanthate I did but I said a nail punctured the back of my arm.
Best of luck bro. Get it checked, who cares what they think.
If it's hot to the touch then it's likely an abcess, so I would get to the doctor asap.Hey Nate I'm a Canadian too living in Ontario,cheer's.......Dave

I missed in my left foot the other day... didn't realize I had missed until about half way though, big red bump on my foot with swelling for about 3 days, then the swelling started to go down, now its almost back to normal (doesn't hurt anymore, swelling mostly gone)

Its still hot to the touch, but I'm not running a fever. The swelling has went down and the red-area is slightly smaller.
The only difference is a little raised bump where the needle went in, but it doesn't look like a puncture (ie track) mark, it just looks like a little bump.
I've giving it until Friday (by then my three tracks on my arm will be gone too), and if it isn't better I'll make a doctor's appointment. If it gets much worse, (like red line running from the site, swelling, a high-grade fever, or intense pain) I'll go to a walk-in clinic or the local ER.
I think it'll clear up though, since it hasn't gotten worse.
I can always tell the doctor I get real bad boils and my mother has been known to get abcesses on the backs of her legs (both things true), so I can always get this abcess (if it is one) treated like a boil (which is still really just an abcess).
As far as meds, today was my last day with H (been snorting since I now know I really can't shoot), but even if they run a drug screen it'll only come back posative for opiates (oxycodone and morphine), which I'm prescribed. Worse comes to worse, I'll give the hospital/doctor a fake name and pay in cash.
I'll keep you updated, and thanks for the info.

I agree with the other people about the honesty thing. I imagine they hear a bunch of off the wall stories and just say "ok, yah" to humor the person...hopefully it turns out to be nothing serious

I've had that a million times over the years. Some of them turn into abcesses, but the majority don't. It usually just gets red and swollen, kinda hurts a little, but goes away with in a week or so.
However, you can tell when it is going to be an abcess. The red bump will start to get darker and begin to turn almost black. That is when you know for sure it is going to be an abcess.
I would just watch it and if it doesn't get better in a week or so, go to the doc and get some antibiotics. This really isn't a big deal and happens to everybody. Just watch it and make sure it doesn't turn into an abcess cuz that's when things get bad. So just watch it, if it gets worse or doesn't get better in a week or so get treatment.

Just tell them the truth, who cares what they think? You aren't going to get any pain killers or anything anyway, so that isn't a reason to lie. They are doctors, they have to treat you, have seen a lot of drug related pronblems and have seen a lot of people do a lot of stuff way stupider than shooting some dope.
So there is no reason to lie. As for a drug test, why would they do that? It makes no sense. I have gone to my doctor as well as a few Urgent Cares for abcesses and always told them what it was from. They never said a word or even blinked at it. Shit, they probably assumed that's what it was anyway. If it does abcess, all they do it cut it and drain it, which doesn't really hurt, and then give you some antibiotics. No big deal. If it is bad enough, they may pack it with gauze, which kinda sucks, but still really not a big deal.
So just tell the truth and don't worry. Remeber that the doctor isn't allowed to tell anybody else what happened in the room, if you are worried about your parents or something. I don't know how old you are, so that may not be a concern, if not, sorry.

I'm only eleven, so I don't want my parents finding out.
But you're right about the honesty thing - I'll prob never see the doctor again. If it abcesses, and he asks what happened, I'll just look at him like he's retarded.

If the red area is getting smaller, then it is for-sure getting better. Be careful in the future as you might not always be as lucky!

I didn't mean that about your parents the way it sounded, I know that was going to irritate you. I just know that there are a lot of people on these boards that are in their late teens or early 20's and are still on their parents insurance or still live with their parents and think that if they tell the doc the truth he is going to go straight to the phone and call Mommy.
Sorry, I didn't mean to offend, I just have no idea how old you are.
