I remember reading a book by Dr. Meg Patterson, many years ago, about her using a device called NET or neuroelectric therapy. They hook up a device to your earlobes I believe, and send specific frequencies that reduce or eliminate withdrawal.

She used the device on Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards, and Boy George to name a few, got them off heroin using this device. This was in the 1970s or 80s and I never heard about it since. The book is called Getting Off the Hook.

I was curious if Clapton mentioned this in his recent autobiography, haven't read it yet.

There are other sites that sell these devices, such as the BT-7 brain tuner, it sells for about $175, you can read about it at www.braintuner.com (http://www.braintuner.com).

Anyone ever try this or something like it?

when i was younger i was "treated" with something like this i think. they also used a bunch of leds flashing in various patterns. my school did this. i was kind of a fucked kid but then again the owner was a crackpot and assaulted me.

i'd like to be able to blame all my problems on this ghetto brainwashing but im pretty sure it didnt do jack.

dont forget the power of suggestion is a powerful thing and for 9.99usd a magnet bracelet can heal you!

by the way, welcome. you could have probably made a better first post but w/e.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm active on other methadone boards, and it's nice to find something else. Actually, I'm 53 years old and have been on methadone for 23 years. Started in Philly, then went to an obot doc in Baltimore (100 mile drive each way) to get monthlies (PHilly clinic only allowed me 4 a week), now living in south Florida which fortuantely put me on monthlies right away.

I've been employed since 1976 when I graduated from college. Travel a lot, hence the need for monthlies. Anyway, I've looked into ibogaine (too expensive), acupuncture (tried it, no luck), CES devices, again didn't work.

That's why I always wondered if Clapton, Townshend, Richards, et al, used something else in addition to magical frequencies to get them off heroin w/out withdrawal. So since this forum topic deals with withdrawal, that's the reason for the post.

I've pretty given up these magic bullets and figure I'll take methadone for the rest of my life, just like a diabetic takes insulin, or someone with hypertension takes high blood pressure meds.

It's just the cost that kills me (no medical coverage)....Philly was $100/week, here in FL it's $336/month, and the OBOT in Baltimore was $75/month! No counselors, no groups, just show up once a month, give a urine, and leave until the next month.

I've been clean since 1990. The doctor in Baltimore (Dr Hayes) said that as cheap as methadone is, for a compliant patient who receives monthly, the only cost is the medicine and the urine, which was $75 for the entire month.

Even though I only have to show up here in FL once a month, they still charge you like a client who comes in every single day ($12/day). It's ridiculous. But OBOT is hard to find, like I said the closest ones to me in Philly were New York City and Baltimore, both about 100 miles from philly so I chose Baltimore to avoid the jersey tpk and the tunnels into NYC.

And you're right of course, so many of these alternative treatments are more the power of suggestion than they are treatments that eliminate withdrawal symptoms and get you off of the drug for good.

It's interesting anyway, who knows what's next? Take it easy and I'll start posting on the main board when I visit.

I've read about *something* like this.
It's common in Eastern medicine for accupuncture needles to have a current passed through them.

That's the closest I've heard of it.

what is OBOT? Also might not want to post doctor's names (If you are talking about what they prescribe- its fine if your citing a study or something)

They got Alex Grey art work on their website. That strikes me as odd coming from a medical supplier.

OBOT= Office Based Opiate Therapy
Basically a doctor scripting a month of methadone at a time for maintenance. Shockingly, it is legal (if stringent conditions are met- recordkeeping, permits, training, drug tests, etc). So that means the story of doctors advertising methadone scripts at MMT clinics may be true!
