ODs and Seizures and "pins n needles"....oh my

So i started getting pins and needles every time i did a big (at least .3 gram) shot, over the summer. i thought it was something my dope was cut with but it happens in different cities with way different batches of dope.

Then, a few months ago, I did a big, half gram shot of really good shit and had a seizure and pissed myself. i woke up and i had bit my tongue really hard and the next day my legs hurt like i had run a marathon.

my housemates have found me having a seizure twice since then. the pins and needles come before the seizure every time, but i get the pins and needles from lots of H and i've only had the seizures from this one dealer in detroit's stuff.

so is this an OD or is it an allergic reaction...yes i know it is god or karma or whatever telling me to stop, but seriously what is it? I used to OD pretty easy before i had a big habit but i haven't had a turning-blue, normal kind of OD since 2003.

It appears that the "pins and needles" you're feeling prior to having a seizure is an "aura." People with seizure disorders often describe different sensations prior to the onset of a seizure.

I doubt it's an allergic reaction. Rather, your brain chemistry has been altered. See a neurologist.

Once you have one seizure, regardless of cause, you're predisposed to having more. I had seizures after my first 2 OD's and a third coming out of anesthesia from an operation. Docs won't prescribe certain meds now. You need to see someone about this as you can develop epilepsy this way.

The pins and needles is a normal feeling shotting heroin and morphine, I think pretty much everybody gets it from decent sized shots.

As for the seizures, I have gotten those also. But it has only happened about 4 times. I think it is a mild OD or right on the borderline of going out. When it happened to me, I would do a big shot, then a few seconds later then pins and needles and then a few seconds after that I would fall on the floor and seize up. The strange part is that I was concious the whole time. It is a very weird feeling to be flopping around on the ground and not be able to stop.

So, the pins and needles is normal, it is a type of histamine reaction I believe, but the seizures mean ya done gone a little too far.

Also I have heard of the 'pins and needles' effect from dope that has a lot of residual morphine left over from its conversion.

That may explain why some gives you the feeling but only one gives the seizures.

SWIM used to experience the 'pins and needles' thing quite often...and grew to love it - I have no experience with seizures *knock on wood*

Have you ever had this 'pins and needles' feeling and seized without H being involved? Either way you need to be seen by a doctor at once. You are experiencing aura and from the loss of bladder control and the way you said your legs felt you may be having Grandmal seizures. This could be a sign of Epilepsy or any of a series of neurological disorders.

This isn't anything to mess around with. Seizures can cause your heart to go into arrhythmia (an irregular beat) and that is not good.

haven't had any seizures w.out having just done a big shot.

they are definitely grand mal seizures, i have no memory of them happening, I wake up on the floor (or having been carried somewhere by my roommate) with a giant painful bite on the tip of my tongue, and I am really disoriented for a while afterwards. then i am really sore, especially my calves, the next day from the muscle spasms.

i had one seizure when i was a kid and had a high fever, and one in 2003 after hitting my head.

the last time i had one i knew it was coming, I jumped up and opened my bedroom door and kind of fell into the hallway so my roommate would see me.

i AM making an effort not to do so much H that I seize up, believe me i don't like this besides the danger involved i bite my tongue so hard I can't talk right for a week. it's just that my veins are so bad now that i don't want to split my shot in half, it's hard enough to hit once let alone twice. what I am doing is pushing it in slower and the idea is that if it feels like too much i stop but (big suprise) i don't have the best impulse control esp. at the the moment when a big shot of dope is halfway in.

Well at least it only seems to be happening when H is involved. I don't know how you're setup for health care, probably not so well if you're like most, but it would make me feel better if you could get at least an EEG performed.

I'm kind of familiar with the Metro area. I have some relatives there. If you live in Wayne county I believe Henry Ford has a good system for folks with little or no health care. Now I don''t know how you're setup in that direction so please don't get insulted or anything. If you do have health insurance you may want to go out to Oakland County and see a neurologist out of Beaumont in Royal Oak. I believe they just finished setting up a pretty good clinic for uninsured folks but I'm not certain about that.

Yeah - well as far as impulse control goes I don't think too many people on this board have that issue taken care of - I know I sure don't.:rolleyes: Did you get checked-out by a doc when you hit your head in 03? Well, I'm down in Cincinnati right now, and I had a seizure the day before yesterday from the dope i get here. I am staying at a hotel, and I remember getting high and then the next thing i remember i was locked out of my room and i had pissed myself. I had to go down to the front desk to get let into my room.

Yesterday morning I woke up and my tongue and legs hurt really fucking bad. I have to talk on the phone to make any money and my tongue is swollen so big that i sound like a retard on the phone. today it is even worse. i really am not too happy about the whole thing, i don't want epilepsy and i hate having seizures. it's kind of scary to me and i think it's even scarier to my room mates. but i don't want to have to not get high. do u think it would help if i took topamax or depakote or some other seizure med?

1 of my buds has the same thing happen 2 him when he does a .5 shot. He doesn't turn blue or anything, just falls over and starts convulsing, then he walks like my grandpa 4 a week. I don't think it's an od it's weird though. Now every1 just makes sure he don't take to big of a shot.

I would think they should help. Even benzos should help, they're anticonvulsants, and you might be more likely to have some around. But at this point I wouldn't be trying to treat myself... you need to see a doctor. Go to the ER and don't pay, or whatever. Just say you've had seizures and get checked out. Then worry about whether you're going to be able to get high. (I know this is 2 days old, so hopefully you've already gone or set something up.)

Get a hold of some lamictal if you can. It wont interfere or potentiate your H like phenobarb or a benzo will, but it will slow the synapses firing and decrease the probablity or severity of a seizure. Also, get cleaner dope and dont do so damned much. Seizures arent good...

Yeah, you're totally right. I'm so used to people talking about combining them (I have too, but I don't IV) but it's always dangerous.

Just too back the both of you up on this. Mixing these together with simply the wrong quantity(?) of benzos could really fuk you up wong time. If you've got a habit and are tracked out, the doctor will be making a note of this and will most definately be letting you know he's no dummy.

If you could find a harm-reduction doctor or someone linked up with a harm reduction clinic that would be the safest bet in my book. Good luck and please dont take this lightly, it could happen in the wrong place at the wrong time someday and you could end up being responsable for more than just your own life.

Try not injecting it so quick. It's never happened to me with heroin but anytime I fire up some morphine I have to go slow or I get that feeling crawling from my feet up to my head.
