I stumbled upon this article describing a method of heroin synthesis using 4-dimethylaminopyridine as an acetylation catalyst in conjuction with methylene chloride and acetic anhydride that yields heroin from morphine in less than 10 minutes at room temperature. It's a pretty interesting read, so I thought I'd share:
