Newbie here, 1st post!! Found this forum, by mistake and need help. I have chronic lower back, for about 2 years. I was living in Az had had a great doc, he knew I was in pain and helped me. He starte @ 120 10/650 lorcet monthly. From there he decided to try 20mg 0xcontin. I have heard many differnt opinions about these and told him I would rather go anouther way, he wanted me try them . SO I paid around $550 for a total of 120 over 3 months. After 3 days I did like them, and stopped taking them. My then gave me 60mg mscotnin 2x daily, and percocet for breakthrough pain. Anyways I moved to southern california, disnyland area. Went to my paretns dock, he referrred meto a friend. This guy gave me steriods shots, and 12ox3 moth lorcet. This was not working I could not live I was in pain all day and it was effecting my life. He said "You need what is called a sch. 2 drug, which I am scared to prescribe so go to a pain docoter" Now I have spend over 500$ for docs and meds..so I want a doc that will help...DOES ANYONE KNOW A PAIN DOC IN MY AREA THAT WILL HELP?"

I don't. If someone had a good pain doctor that liberally rx'ed schedule II's I doubt they would just publicly post it because LE (not saying you are) would assume that any doctor posted on this board is worthy of reviewing. He'd be watched pretty closely. Also, I doubt that this would be the first place people would come to find a good pain management doctor ya' know. SEems a little suspicious. But if you are in pain, look around the board adn educate yourself. Good luck.

Caesee,
One of the problems that has happened with Doc's and prescribing meds is due to the abuse that has taken place with such drugs as Oxycontin. Unfortunately with all the publicity of these drugs and the crackdown on docs prescribing them, some docs are now hesistant to prescribe them. I have never heard a doc say he is scared to prescribe to a patient before and would be really weary about seeing him again. He may have been busted before or is not allowed to prescribe anymore. Who knows, but just because they have a license, doesn't mean they are any good.
Do you have insurance? Have you had X-Rays, MRI, etc. Physical Therapy. For any doc who is just prescribing pain meds without any type of diagnostic test, especially if your still having pain, is a doc I would not return to. Unless, your only looking for meds, which I am not condemning, just trying to get an idea of what your looking for.
I have worked in the area of Orange County and used to work Worker Comp Case Management part time, so I do know of some docs that you may want to see.
Give me a day or two and I will dig up some names for you. I will send you a PM with a good referral.

well went to see pain doc today. He was awsome, ment through my records, gave me a steriod shot, and prescribed me meds. He offered me oxys's which I hate (yes its true i turned them down) so I was prescbied 60mg ms contin 2x daily and 10mg percocet for breakthrough pain. The doctor told me that evry month I will drug tested to insusre I am taking my meds. Is this normal? He said that "the drug test is to ensure that they meds are not being divereted" Any else have to do this that does to a pain doc? well anywas a ms contin and 2 percs later and I am can actually move, weird no I dont what to do...lol (ps being in cali I have a medical cannibas rx (for drug testing purposes so he knew it would be mj posiive) we talking about marijuana for a while, I think he smoked...lol he said"yeah I have heard about kush"...lol

Man, I sure wouldn't. As much as I'd like to get scribed opies at times (and I do have a pretty bad back), I couldn't support a doctor who is treating the symptoms, without first looking for causes (potentially allowing an otherwise treatable condition to worsen). And I'm not condemning doctor shopping (I may or may not have done that a few times myself), but to think that a doctor would have such disregard for his or her patient's well being is sickening to me (I've got a really weird sense of morals.)

If your just looking for meds, than I would imagine going through diagnostic tests to rule out any problem just won't suit your needs, but if your truely in alot of pain and in need of treatment, than a good doc is just what you need.
Believe me, I am not being critical of anyone who is looking for meds, pain or otherwise. I do however feel that pain should be treated and no one should suffer. Pain is very subjective and often times, those suffering are often either undermedicated or not receiving the appropriate treatment.
And if that is the case, finding the right doc can often be a frustrating thing for those in pain. Especially with the publicity addiction to pain meds has caused.

Hi:
Sorry to hear about your pain.
Most of us on this site are actually here regarding recreational use.
However- while I don't know any Doc's in S. Calif pls let me make a few suggestions.
You should by all means explore the possibility of epidural shots.
Sometimes one visit will do the trick, sometimes 2 or 3 or even 4! (Give it 6 months).
Also, physical therapy can be very effective. Give that a chance too.
Lastly, don't be afraid of the idea of oxycontin if you intend to take them as prescribed.
If you do, they are the most effective pain killers on the market due to the time release feature.
The "bad things" you've heard is the fact that us Opiophiles have found ways to alter the pills to remove that time release factor; which in turn makes them a lot like heroin.
While we enjoy this lifestyle, it (for most of us) is like wearing a ball & chain- we live in addiction & semi-addiction.
You mentioned the money; yes they are expensive. But if you are a legitament pain patient who is on the "up & up" find people to be trusted & get get referrals to their general practictioners, who in turn can refer you to Docs specializing in pain management. Once you do that, explore ALL options. At that point you'll be ok & if you find a non-narcotic way to go it will cost you far less money.
Good luck!
