simplest answer...you don't. why would you want to? We sip syrup EVERY chance we get. Anyway, it actually is possible, but VERY difficult. Not a 'kitchen extract' if ya know what I mean. Many chems and lab equip..

If it were me I would probably obtain some chloroform or dichloromethane(methylenechloride), sodium hydroxide,hydrochloric acid. Theoretically if you were to add the NaOH to the cough syrup, the hydrocodone would become lipid soluble and could be extracted with the CHCl3 orCH2Cl2. This is then easily evaporated away with GENTLE heat(preferably no flame), leaving hydrocodone base.But Im not sure how stable hydrocodone is,nor what other ingredients are in ya syrup. And the above should work fine with codeine, but that doesnt mean itll work with hydrocodone. But is it worth all the hassle, coz if it is similar to codeine, then shooting it wont make any difference at all.Just chug down half the bottle.

but make it on the rocks; before the ice melts obviously, you'll wish they had it in a bar when your done.

Actually, best syrup I've ever had was yellow tussionex....that and codi-clear. Man, they had me leanin...hard yo!
