i can get addicted to benzos in as little as 3 days. its all in how bad ur addictive personality is. i have a really bad monkey on my shoulder lol. so 3 days of using xanax i can have physcal and mental w/ds. no bullshit.

benzo w/ds are mental hell, extreme paranoia, panic, just an overall feeling of wanting to stay in for a week until they are done. i wish u the best. i stopped using benzos a long time ago.

benzo WD's are serious stuff. have you been using them every day? because breaking the physical dependence is the dangerous part. the psychological WD's are nasty enough, but if your body has become dependant on them, quitting them without doing a taper can send you into seizures. you're probably gonna be alright since it's been a rather short amount of time that you've been using them (compared to the 10-12 years straight that i used every day when i started my loooooong taper).

still, just to be on the safe side, when you're ready to stop using benzos you should taper your dose down gradually for a week or 2, rather than just stopping them abruptly. and expect to get shitty nights of sleep for a little bit... that was one of the worst parts for me. i was so used to having benzos in my system to sleep, that i couldn't stay asleep without them.

always be cautious about using benzos on a regular basis for extended periods of time. opiate WD can make you wish you were dead, but benzo WD can make that wish come true. for reals.

xanax w/d is absolutely horrible! be prepared to be drawn up in a fetal position and sleepless for atleast 5 days, and that 3-4 day is a s.o.b.

Back in the early 90's i started a benzo habit (daily) starting off with approx 3-6 mg's a day(xanax)...I was complimenting my narcotics regimine and liked the sedate and relaxed feeling benzo's gave and overall did'nt think nothing of at the time...as sources (doctors) increased my supply and time went on... I continued to use more..and more...and more...finally in about a 8 year period my daily dose was the following....16 mg xanax...80 mg valium.... 20 mg ativan and mix or match serax, tranxene, librium and basicly any benzo that i could get my dirty little mitts on.

..I know...people tell war-stories on how much they used but im being true as day ...benzos use over time.... like most drugs....lends to tolerance in the user...and in my case...i became quite immune to the sedative effects and more or less used them not to get high anymore.... but merely to sustain a state of calm...well...to make a long story short...when forced to enter detox by circumstance( had an oil-burner H habit as well)...the doctors started the taper and immidiately dropped me down to 20mg t.i.d and boy did i feel it !!! restlessness-insomnia-panic-spasms-jitters-gooseflesh-and the fucking jones's...and this was after the opiate detox...7 days in (dropped down to 10mg t.i.d.).

... this is when the shakes started....could not hold a drink in my hand without spilling the contents over my myself...and for agitation...extreeme is putting it mildly..and this went on for the course of my stay...could hardly sleep at night...and thought constantly about pills and pills and more pills....every moment about when the next dose (5mg t.i.d.)...and in the last week without any... i went nuts..after checking out the shakes continued for months ( not as pronounced but there none the less)...and to sum it all up...an experience not to forget.

..thought i'd put it out there so you might have a reference of how bad benzo w/d's can be...and to keep it real...yes...i still partake in an occasional milligram now and then ...but as for daily use and large doses with repitition...I am very carefull not to re-live the physical dependece aspect..."oldscratch"

Yes, VERY serious stuff, Benzo WD's can last for months, at least that was my experience with Xanax.

Steady use of benzos even at prescribed doses can cause w/d symptoms even after several weeks. Be careful and don't jump off cold turkey. You have to taper off benzos, even after only a few weeks of routine dosing.

Roxi-

Any suggestion on a 2-3 week taper with xanax? The starting dosage is not big at all, but still want to do it safe.... say the daily dosage is 2mg... any suggestions? I UTFSE but I'm not so good at it...

Thanks.

I personally think you might be fine since you've only been on them for a month.... IT usually takes a long time to get physical withdrawals from benzos.

Lets see what some of the pros have to say on the issue.

Thanks JM - it's been 6+ months, I just meant that the taper could be over a 2-3 week period ;)

ive had access to Klonopin and took 10+mg each day for a well over 3 months and went cold turkey and felt absolutely no WD symptoms

but i never really liked them, i just took em cause i had access to them for free, opiates have always been my DOC

i think WD from benzos depends mucho on how much "feeling, effect" you get from each dose and how much you look forward to the next dose, and if you actually need them for anxiety

i say that because I've never really felt pleasant effects from benzos and never looked forward to the next time i was gonna dose (i had a different DOC-methadone) and i thought i was gonna WD like hell and was worried as fuck for awhile- but to my great full surprise I got no WD:D
