View Full Version : Question about Quotes within Posts

Quick question for the more knowledgable users of the board since I'm slightly technologically challenged:
If I'm responding to a post, and want to quote multiple people, how do I go about doing that? For example, say Poster A says something I want to respond to and so does Poster B and I want to quote both of them?
Any input would be much appreciated! I keep wanting to respond to multiple people but don't know how, and don't want to double-post and make extra work for the Mods/Admins.
Thanks so much!

use the http://forum.opiophile.org/images/gnome/buttons/multiquote_off.gif (http://forum.opiophile.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=205224) button for the first quote or quotes.
then hit http://forum.opiophile.org/images/gnome/buttons/quote.gif (http://forum.opiophile.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=205224) for the last quote you wish to reply to
all of the quotes will show up and just reply to each one..

Easiest way I've found is to just right-click on the quote button and click "open in new tab/window" for every post you want quoted. Then you can copy and paste the quoted part from all the different windows into 1 window/response. It's easy to do but I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well. Tabs are easier to deal with but windows work to if you're using a browser without tabs.
Damn WC's way is easier than mine, thanks for stealing my thunder man, and you even beat me to the first response. :(

i've noticed some people are having probs with quoting other people in their posts.
(i.e. "this is where you post quotes" thread.)
mods and admins don't have any prob fixing them but to make it easier this is the deal:
(credit to Vbulletin FAQ from opiophile FAQ)
this is not a big deal at all just a refresher for those who are havin' problems.
blabla bla [/quote}
see the "}" symbol at the end?.......... ^..... if i were to have done it correctly with "]"
it would have shown up as a quote like this:
[quote=username]blabla bla
so i had to change the last character so the code would show up.
you can use the http://forum.opiophile.org/images/gnome/buttons/quote.gif (http://forum.opiophile.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=212696) button just make sure ALL of the code shows up!!!!!

I can't underestimate how IMPORTANT it is to do this. There's few things more annoying than to see one member with 5 posts in a row, each with one quote in it.
It's a pain in the ass to be merging posts all the time, and when we see one or two members doing it constantly, it becomes REALLY annoying.
Aside from that, it's just common courtesy to not double, triple, or even quadruple post.
