I've noticed this to be true while taking xanax. I have no direct experience smoking and doing valium. My guess would be stimulant vs. depressant. Now, granted I haven't had a cig in about a year, I do remember the benzo buzz kicking back in about 30 min after the smoke, if you don't smoke anymore. But I'm sure this varies person to person as most everything does.

i've never noticed any effect like that. is it cold outside where you are? cuz sometimes a blast of really cold air would wake me up enough that it would feel like i lost some of a benzo buzz. in fact, i regularly stuck my head in the freezer when i was doing lots of benzos, just so i wouldn't fall asleep and miss out on my benzo high. (of course, that only ever kept me awake until i went and sat back down... then ZZZzzzzzzz.......)

Interactions from wikipedia

#12 Smoking tobacco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco) can enhance the elimination of diazepam and decrease its action.

i guesse its true:( ...sucks ciggs are always good when high... yeah its cold but that doesnt seem to effect my buzz.

i dont know anyone else share this interaction?

i chew. chewing made anything feel better for me. i dont kno why.

and when it comes to smoking something, it gets it to ur brain just as fast if not faster than shooting it, due to it prefusing into ur blood via ur lung tissue(i forget the acutal part of the lungs that does the profusion), but yea it goes to lungs to blood to brain.

I've noticed smoking a cigarette reduces the effect of benzos and opiates... but the effects come back 30 minutes after smoking, as somebeody else hasd already mentioned.

Wow, you guys must have some strong ass enzymes! I know its a known fact that nicotine definitely increases the elimination/metabolism rate of benzos, but I've never had an experience where I actually lost all benzo sensation after a cigarette. Holy crap! Cigarettes and benzos just make me hiccup everytime I smoke another cigarette, though that's irritating enough, although it usually only happens back when I would use excessive amounts of benzos, something I vigorously avoid now.

I only smoke when i'm really high, but don't you hate it when you hiccup while smoking? That shit burns...

Smoking seems to briefly enhance downer buzzes for me, but it also seems to make them wear off faster. Reverse potentiation I guess since it induces some cytochrome enzymes.

Cigs actually inhibit monoamine oxidase though, which may account for their superior addictive nature over just nicotine. also may account for the added euphoria to some drugs - not as much MAO to mop up the released dopamine and other monoamine neurotransmitters.

NOTE: do not even THINK about mixing a strong MAOI like phenelzine, selegiline, etc, with most recreational drugs. Opiates may be OK (except meperidine), but stimulants, dxm, mdma with an maoi will KILL you DEAD.

i have read about that process too---about how smoking tobacco whilst on benzodiazepines can in fact, lessen the effect of the benzo...

but in my experience, and i am a smoker, and also am prescribed xanax...i haven't noticed anything different, to tell u the truth; feels the same to me.
