Hey I got a bit of a problem I need some help with. I live in Canada and I always buy the aspirin with codeine pills over the counter here and extract the codeine with the cwe method. Problem is they seem to have switched the ingriedients in some brands now though cause no matter what i do the end solution looks cloudy which is usually a sign of aspirin in the solution. In theory though the aspirin shouldnt be in the stuff at the end cause it aint soluble in cold water that much so I'm hoping the cloudy crap is just some binders like corn starch. I'm just a bit nervous too drink it till i find out though cause I dont feel like overdosing on aspirin if I can help it :). Any help would be appreciated.

One would have to think that it would be awful easy to "ruin it" for cold water pill-washers by the pharm companies by simply adding an undesirable, water-soluble ingredient.

After doing much reading and experimenting I think the cloudyness is just the binders, ie. corn starch. Aslong as no more than 3ml/pill of water is used and it's filtered good there should be almost no bad stuff left in the finall product.

There is a way to find out. Weigh how much a pill weighs, using a digital scale you can buy one for 20$ on ebay or a head shop (dealers buy them to sell pot and coke etc.). Do one normal extraction and let it evaporate on a dish, scrape it up and weigh it. if it weighs less then one pill then theres no way you could get more material then what is in one asperin anyways. And as long as it weighs less then say 800mg (.8) you should be fine even if aspirin makes up a large percentage. I did this with deighydrocodeine because the water was murky and it used to freak me out. Turns out it weighed less then 600mm so even if tylenol got through it would be less then taking the normal max of 1 gram.

never thought of that, very clever. Also I was wondering how common it is to have an upset stomach from using CWE codeine regularly. I find it keeps me in a nice nod all day if i dose it through to day, like say 250mg in the morning and another at dinner. It also doesent have the horrible withdrawls after a dose like oxy, man i swear that oxy is like heroin sometimes.

I havent taken heroin but i remember when my doctor gave me 10mg Endocet (80 + 30 more a while later), then with those i had 40 7.5's and about 60 vicoden. I thought the last night, OH ill go out on a good note and took 15mg OXY (i never actualy took more then 10 mg i didnt want my tollerance sky rocketing). Well two days later i was throwing up and misserable so i went back in and explaned what was going on. It wasnt my normal doctor but she gave me 6 mor 10mg's to take 1/2 of 2 times a day to lessen the affects and a catapres patch.
BUT! yea u can feel sick to your stomach. Also isnt there caffiene in those? When i first bought the 8mg codeine pills from over sea's i extracted somewhere around 800mg of caffiene with it. That was one of the only times i really thought i would die from a substance. Plus you have to consider the binders they use, now true there are "inert" but they only expect you to take maybe one or two. If your taking say.... 10 or 20 this could cause that, or it could be the taste (placebo affect maybe) but i dont know, im only an ameuture doctor.

The effects of taking such large amounts of caffeine def suck, thats why I use a better method for extracting the codeine that i posted on here awhile ago called the improved codeine extraction. It only works for the pills which contain aspirin though which are easily available in Canada.

"no matter what i do the end solution looks cloudy"
i assume you are following chromic's method? if not, you probably should be.
when I do the CWE i always use single coffee filters to start. initially i always force the decanted liquid through the filter by gently twisting it. then put a new filter on, twist it through untill all decanted solution is filtered once. now i put the filtered stuff through two filters to further clarify it.
now i reduce the volume (in a small stainless steel pot, highest heat setting so the solution is at 100c for as little time as possible). to precipitate the caffiene leave the reduced solution in the fridge overnight(essential) to be sure all the caffiene falls out. This always leaves me with a perfectly clear solution of nearly pure codiene after filtering the caffiene out.
THIS IS ESSENTIAL: always pre-wet your filters and then leave them in the fridge (already on your reciever vessel) to reach the same temp as the fluid you are filtering. temperature differences will clog your filter faster.
with practise you'll be able to perform this by memory with consistant results. i take a bottle from start to concentrated solution cooling in the fridge in about an hour
IF THE CLOUDINESS PERSISTS: then you might consider using a charmin plug after using coffee filters. do not use a hot solution with a charmic plug, only cold.
