Oh man, this was a crazy fucking weekend. Last week SWIM sold this dude some mushrooms, it was the first time SWIM met him but turned out to be pretty cool.

So SWIM was planning on eating some of the shrooms on saturday when SWIM looked at the newspaper. And right there in the obituaries was a picture of the dude SWIM sold them to. Now there was some doubt in SWIM's mind weather he was responsible for it or not...

Then SWIM heard from a friend that on the news the previous night some one was dropped off at the hospital by some friends and pronounced DOA, the friends just took off.

So SWIM was convinced that it was SWIM's mushrooms that killed the dude. Not only did SWIM sell them to the guy, but SWIM picked all of them also. So SWIM really would have been responsible on the most base level for this dudes death.

I won't build any more tension. It turned out the guy OD'd on methadone, had nothing to do with SWIM's mushrooms.

Wow that would be scarey! Especially if swim had not tried the batch of shrooms he sold the dude, yet. Then the question would be looming if they were deadly or not. And then you sure as shit couldn't eat any to find out. In my limited understanding i think it would be tough to die on shrooms. Unless you got so fucked up that you put yourself in harms way.

There's always the urban legend of the dreaded 'death cap.' Anyone know if thats a true story or a tall tale?

It's no legend, they exsist and look very like fly agaric.

I can't say more because my memory about all this(well everything) is shakey........too many damn shrooms.

Yeah, death caps are real, but really easy to identify. But there was some question with these ones too, the species has a deadly look alike. I have always been able to tell the difference between the two, but often they will grow right next to eachother.

Yikes! That's spooky! SWIM picks Psilocybe cyanescens from several areas in which Galerina autumnalis sometimes grow. (Once someone ransacked one of SWIMS patches, and he felt obliged to check the obituaries for the next 2 months, as the culprit had also picked the G. autumnalis). Fortunately, no accidental posionings of any sort turned up.

Though they share few traits (and to a trained eye, could not be mistaken for each other) SWIM often checks his P. cyanescens for a pellicle, pithed stipe, and bluing as a precaution.

Yes, death caps do exist but they do not look anything like the "magic" mushrooms we are used to seeing. You can't miss them if you see them.
Oh BTW, I would have been freaking out if I opened the paper and saw that shite!

For obvious legal reasons, this thread should be closed before google caches it.

Death caps look nothing like fly agaric.
Death caps are no joke, you will die a horrible, painful death if you ingest them, but like the previous posters said- they're hard to confuse with psylocibin

I have mentioned this in another thread - they sell Fly Agaric in head shops over here, and i have tried them. They fucked me and my buddy up like nothing ever could. It was a dark experience from the get-go.
My friend was convinced that we were locked up in a mental institution. I also thought that i would never come down.
the trouble is, it's pretty easy to misjudge your dosage if you've never taken them before, and i think we a bit too much. And as far as i know, they can even be toxic in sufficient amounts. (and still legal!)
Still, even with a proper dose, i don't know anyone who had an overall enjoyable experience on Fly Agaric mushrooms

here is a link to buy some on line if anyone ever feels like a truly world shattering experience
http://www.redeyefrog.co.uk/Fly_Agaric.html
You could probably pick some yourselves even (depending on where you live)

edit: I would strongly advise against it though, and have put in that link as more of a bad joke...

I'm going on memory here, but I believe that death caps and fly agaric are both from the same family.-amanita and can look alike.Neither look anything like psilocybin.

I didn't enjoy fly agaric either.

Yes, you're probably right here - i think they are from the same 'family'.
I meant that deathcaps look pretty distinctive and do a LOT more damage physically than F.Agaric

Fly agaric really isn't a very nice experience from what I have heard, probably best to stick to the psilocybin. As for the death-cap, you really have to love the names given to some poisonous mushrooms. My favorite is the "Destroying Angel", the name says it all.
