   In 1975 I joined the Navy and ended up on a Tin- Can(Destroyer)stationed in Japan.Being a Boot(New guy)I was approached by a Salt (old guy),and he asked me to piss in a shampoo bottle! My response was WTF!????? In 1975 it was just the beginning of urinalysis type screening in the Navy because of some fires on the Aircraft Carriers Forrestal (ForestFire),Enterprise and a few other incidents where they did post-mortem autopsies on the victims and a good percentage were under the influence of narcotics and/or cannabis. So when this Old Salt (he was about 23)asked me(18yr.old neophyte)I thought- man is this guy a freak or what? After he told me his story I felt bad for him and helped him out as he had that monkey on his back.Seems that he had sent a package of a substance that Southeast Asia was famous for to his brother in Illinoise.Somewhere along the way the Postal authorities and Naval Investigative Service of Japan (NISO-JAY) caught wind of his plan ,they intercepted the package ,busted him ,his bro and a few others involved. They automatically put him on urinalysis every week and back then they didn't watch to close,I guess and he pulled this off for several months before they released him to the authorities in his home town. His experience just shows how strong a grip that fuckin monkey had on his back!I lurk on web sites that feature my old ship and its'old crew and I have seen his name on one of them,He ,like me ,has returned to his home town and is still kickin it -all this water under the brow later.

I wish it was that easy these days. Unfortunately now they test the temperature of the submission, and if it's not right it's considered a fail. There are still ways around it, even supervised, but they are making it harder and harder. Now I hear tell that MMT clinics, some POs, and some of the millitary are using the oral swabs! That's just plain old unfaif. :p

Yep here in the UK the MMT clinic which provides my script now use oral swabs and have done for about three years. I've heard of loads of ways round piss tests but never a realistic way round the oral swab. They are even accepted in court as evidence whereas the old piss tests weren't. Some pubs in my town now drug test u on the way in! What's the world coming to? Laters Poppyx

Yeah, they don't fuck around these days. I enlisted a few months ago and I'm currently in DEP (Delayed Entry Program) and when I went up to MEPS they had a technician stand and glare at your genetalia as you urinated. They test for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP, and amphetamines (the standard NIDA 5), and for 3 other random drugs. I have a test at MEPS about a month before boot camp, and then one at boot camp that tests at the 0 nanogram mark for a pretty large variety of detectable illegal substances. They have a heat strip on the sample that will automatically denote whether or not the temperature of the sample is normal, and they also check levels of substances that should naturally be present in your urine to make sure you didn't use a cleanser. During your first year in the navy they have 5 random drug tests at 0 nanogram and if you fail once, (although your sample has to test postive 3 times), you're kicked out with a dishonorable discharge. They did bullshit about the detection period for SWIM's first test. SWIM had done coke less than two weeks prior and still passed as coke is out of your sytem in usually 3 - 4 days.

yeah, a good friend of mine was stationed at the navy base in groton and used to come out and party with us every weekend. He tested positive for ecstasy and was given a dishonorable discharge.
That was five or so years ago, damn, i really miss him....

I have a close friend in the marines that was talking about all of the units that were testing positive for opies after being stationed in afghanistan. Literally, one entire unit (every single man) tested positive and was kicked out. But really, how tempting must that have been with the availability there.

Some pubs in my town now drug test u on the way in!

What is meant by this? Testing on the way into pubs. What business do they have testing you? If that is true, it is very disturbing. Later,

TT

In the UK? I always thought that in ol Euroland we are still quite well off, but that sounds bad. Is it just Blair the old dog? Hes big buddy with Bush and they are quite similar in their way of enforcing laws... But then, thats not really a hope cause what once is installed in the system wont be taken back very fast ...
Shocks me as much as when I heard that smoking is forbidden in pubs in Ireland. In Ireland! Not that I think its bad, its basically a good thing of course but still a pub without smoking isnt really the same as with ...
Bad times ...

Hey Tea Time, I guess they want to keep trouble out of their establishment. But then you have all this doorkeepers filled up till the roof with cocaine ...

See, here's something worth considering:

Poppy farmers often report that they experience withdrawal in the morning before work, even those who don't ingest any of their product! Apparently poppy farming results in such constant exposure that there is absorption through the skin or even via the air/water/etc......

So if these guys were working poppy destruction, they may have tested positive even if they'd never actually used.....
