Palladone has been pulled from the market due to concerns of possible fatalaties, this from the people who brought us Oxycontin http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/13/AR2005071302286.html

Forgot to mention this was Purdue-Pharma's extended release hydromorphone.Evidently alcohol can cause a rapid release of the hydromorphone in a dosage "dump".Sounds like my cuppa......

I was thinking to myself as I read the headline "God, this sounds familiar." Then I looked at the date. This is fairly old news, though it does raise an interesting point.
Though I understand the concerns, I think its ridiculous that a few idiots who refuse to follow fairly clear instructions must ruin things for everyone else. It would seem that in the concept of passive eugenics, the possibility that the government would actually protect stupid people from killing themselves was not accounted for. This combined with our dwindling interest in education does not bode well for the future of the American populous.

Yeah....this was extremely sad news for us chronic pain sufferers. Palladone was bar none the best med available and many docs saw it as a solid alternative to Oxy when long-acting Morphines, currently the chronic pain meds of choice such as Avinza, Kadian, MS Contin, etc., aren't working well enough.....
For some reason, the Palladone time release mechanism was particularly subject to the alcohol-dumping problem and Hydromorphone is unusually responsive to EtOH interaction apparently. So until Purdue can introduce a replacement (due in 2007), we're screwed.
