I am going on a cruise this Saturday and have been looking at pictures of other peoples vacation pictures on Flickr. While checking out photos of Saint Maarten I noticed that many people take pictures of liquors not available in these United States. Many of these pics are of the many various types of Absinthe for sale on the half Dutch/ half French Isle.My experience with the "Green Fairy" is not good (as a 18 year old seaman in Japan I partook of the "Pernod" variety and ended up passed out with no memory of how I got back to my ship)As there were many other better ways of amusing myself I just left it alone never to drink it again. Now it is many tears later and I was just wondering if it is legal to bring back some to the US? Does any one have any experiences with this?Just wodering?I guess I will do a search and find out for sure,Iam pretty sure you can mail order it so maybe I can bring a liter or two back.

I have created different varietys of thujone containing liqueur blends in the past........
I obtained an essential oil extract of A. Absinthium and put about 1/5 of a millilitre of the oil in a shot of 190% proof ethanol, then I put that in a bottle of pernod...which puts you somewhat close to the "original" pernod absinthe. the amount of oil is higher I think by 50% .
the oil is somewhat cheap, especially if bought in bulk....adding 1$ worth of oil to a bottle of spirits that shouldnt run more than 28$ is ALOT cheaper than having a bottle of european material sent through customs.
thujone isnt a controlled substance other than as a food additive, and it occurs in many different species of plants. one of those is salvia officianalis.....I made a vodka and salvia officianalis tincture, and experimented with drinking it on the rocks, it was a little too potent.
alot of my information was pulled from DALE PENDELLS first book in a trilogy of books on psychoactives.
He goes into moderate depth about the history
it appears that thujone interacts with the gaba receptors as a partial agonist, so it may have some profound side effects I would think, if overindulged.
It effects me with a slight stimulation, that can keep me up too late.
the best blended absinthe product I made was combining damiana liqueur with a pernod "doctored" bottle. the thujone was intense, and my face flushed red with the combination of oils and damianas vasodialationg effect I suppose.
plenty of places sell the essential oils of absinthe or salvia officianalis. they are generally NOT sold for consumption. it is illegal to be intoxicated on nearly anything according to many common laws so I wouldnt make absinthe consumption a brash, or marketed affair within the USA.
some US companies have sold absinthe flavored mouthwashes or medicinal tincures without any seeming problems that I am aware of. doesnt mean they havnt been hassled though.......
The sore muscle liniment called "Absorbine Jr." contains, among many other things, absinthium oil and wormwood extract. What the difference is I dont' know, but it has 'em in there...
'sgood for sore muscles, and rubbing on track marks.

Not sure if this is kosher here, although everything on this site is completely legal, but if it is against board policy I apologize and will remove the link; however, www.mothergeckobotanicals.com (http://www.mothergeckobotanicals.com) sells wormwood at a seemingly decent price. It isn't an extract or "essential oil" although I see no reason one couldn't perform an ethanol extraction to get at the thujone.

From what i read online, it was one of the first anti-drug laws made, and it is only illegal to drink it her a friend of mine bought some from sebor absinthe, it was quite expensive, but came shipped as collectors bottle, it was good from what he told me.
