My friend has never been shorted pills in her life. However a few days ago she was shorted a couple pills....very tiny pieces of a pill were mistakenly counted AS pills.

Luckily for her these weren't anything that anyone would try to obtain for recreation. The pharmacist was friendly, got the extra pills and apologized. However, it could have been a different scenario, especially had it been any type of even mildly recreational drug. So always remember, COUNT YOUR PILLS AT THE PHARMACISTS DESK BEFORE LEAVING!

Lord knows the hell a pain patient would have gone through by losing a couple pills.

My two major scripts are ordered for 100 pills each, so the pharmacist just gives me the unopened bottle. Easier for both of us!

yes it happens. I've seen a friend get shorted like 4 ritalin pills before and he called them right after he got home and went down and got them right away. should be able to get it sorted out without trouble, they can always do a pill count unless some pharmacist/ASSistant is stealing them.

At the pharmacy I frequent (and I do mean frequent - they know my voice on the phone!!) they have to count my OC twice (two different people) but not anything else, that I know of. Is it the same everywhere?

it happens. I've always counted my meds as soon as I get home from the pharmacy. About a year ago, I was on my way out of town, and got my scripts filled right before leaving. When I got to where I was going, I set down to fill my little daily pill canisters, and realized that they had shorted me almost an entire weeks worth of 'done. I immediately called the pharmacy, they tried to say that it was unlikely, but that they would do a count and call me back. Luckily, they were honest and called me back to tell me that they had found the error.... I think I was very lucky in that case. After that, I started counting my pills in the parking lot.

Most fucked up was most recent...about a year ago, trying to get off methadone, and still not back on heroin, so I had a bunch of money...and thought I could get back to "off opiates altogether" so I flew out to Palm Beach to this five thou outpatient treatment I heard about, could get u off methadone w/subutex, which I didn't know anything about: I'd been off of everything for seven years...was a *good* boy...

At clinic, first thing they do is switch you to Oxycontin for a week--that's why rich people go there--and they gave me 14 high pwered oxycontin straight from the drugstore, the guy was so nice, drove me back to nice hotel...and that night I counted my Oxys and there was one missing...of course I called'em next day...whooo whooo, where's my oxy.... no dice, no xtra oxy for me...was their attitude...

Anyway, detox worked good until I got to zero....just like much cheaper buprenorphene detoxes...not hard getting down to 1mg...but when u hit zero...not so easy...then found heroin...and well, u know how that one goes...

Missing pill..*and* five thousand bucks...a lot of money for thirteen oxys and a bottle of subutex...;-)

before i went to the methadone clinic i had a dr giving me scripts for the 10mg dones. one friday hegave me a weekend script for 16 pills so i would come back monday. fuckin cvs only gave me 14. so i went back and they ssaid they did a recount and everything was fine. i told the dr and he said thats how people steal shit from the pharmacy (from the patients). they cant get caught, unless its on camera, but whos gona believe a junky over them?

Always have to check your pills for the amount and to make sure they are the right pills. I take Lyrica 3 times a day at 100mg per dose. One trip to the pharmacy had me taking home 50mg pills instead of 100mg. I would have been in bad shape as I was leaving for a out-of-the-country two week trip the next day.

On the other side of that though is a friend of mine on m'done for pain management. They take 4 5mg pills per day. They got their monthly refill from the pharmacy and found 10mg pills in there instead of 5mg. That was a very good month for everyone! They played it off towards the end of the month by going back to the pharmacy wondering "why these pills were making them so tired?". They admitted their mistake and my friend got a whole bunch of gift certificates for their "troubles".

The place where I was working did a triple count on all CIIs and a double count on all CIII, CIV, and CVs. Alot of places use automated machines to dispense very common drugs, that is usually when broken tablets or peices of tablets are counted as whole ones. If the Tech or RPH counted them, most would not include broken pills in your RX.

I get the unopened bottles too. It just saves a lot of trouble.

But I do count my pills. After all they're *mine*, and I want to be sure I'm getting what I paid for.

Yep! Don't think for a moment that the sealed manufacture bottles can't be short from the company. I have seen sealed bottles that have been short as many as 5 pills and have also seen them have a few extras in them. Of course I don't think any of us here could be that lucky!!:D

I've read of a few incidents on the boards where people have received extra pills in the bottle... thats a bonus, but being shorted pills would fucking suck, especially if the pharmacy wouldn't give you the missing one(s)
