Hi guys, strangely I've never seen this discussed here,so a little help please.

Right,my veins are so damaged that it's quite often that I'll draw a small amount of blood back without being in the vein.
The problem is that if I don't hit a vein quickly the blood clots, making it impossible to push the plunger down.
I've had fixs with blood in turn to a jelly like substance which I've been forced to eat....Ummm tasty.

Any advice, suggestions, anecdotes or insights would be appreciated.

For sure this has happened to me PLENTY. When you poke around too long, you're bound to get blood in the barrel and too much clots. I have no recommendation for fixing a clotted shot. I personally start to freak out when I see too much blood in there and I still cant find a vein. Then I go into panic mode which usually doesnt help me find a vein. After I see clotting start (ie clogging) I quickly jab myself in the muscle (or subq layer if the needle is short) and 'muscle' it before its too late. I'm told 'muscling' bloody shots with short needles is the best way to get abcesses but I prefer it to eating the mix (this had actually never occurred to me).

I do know you can clean a clogged rig out with a q-tip by pulling out the plunger and jamming it down in there.

Sorry thats no help. Just thought I'd say I feel your pain and this is a common problem.

I hear you bro. It's just after 30 odd minutes of trying and you're sitting there covered in blood, hyperventilating and feeling like a seive..........I'm loathed to just shoot it in the muscle.

Oh and bro, eating it tastes terrible-worse than McDonalds even.

That sucks man. Back in my IV days I would have that problem all the time and would usually end up eating it like you said. All good except the one time that I tried to get fancy and bypass the liquid touching my taste buds. I ended up stabbing myself in the back of the throat. There I was, bloody arms, panicked from not being able to find a spot to shoot and a fucking needle in my throat.

Did I give up though? hell no I said a few choice swear words and just squirted it into my mouth. The horrible taste was nowhere near as bad as stabbing my throat. It never occurred to me to just take the plunger out and drink the liquid.

Beautiful and thanks-you made me smile and if that makes you feel any better, sometimes the shot is so solid,it won't come out when you take the plunger out.

Never had it thicken up like that before. Thats got to be just unbelievably frustrating after all the searching and poking and shit.

Frustrating sure,it drives me nuts.

The weird thing is sometimes it clots quickly and sometimes it takes 30 minutes and I can't workout the difference it clotting times.

Frustrating.

Ya no shit, huh! That is the worst feeling.

And trust me, I have no desire to put the tar I buy any where near my nose/mouth. Especially a solid bloody chunk, ew!

Recently I let a fix get solid all the way and I just threw it across the room in misery/frustration. I think I picked it up later, capped the sharp, and tossed it. never occurred to me I could eat it....

sometimes my arms are laced with long strings of clotted blood
aspirin helps- also lower gauge picks or ends or whatever you call them over there
good luck

Ive had this happen alot.It is a terrible feeling to jam up your rig with the last little bit of dope that stands between you and withdrawl hell.Sometimes If I suspect that that Ive got too much blood in my rig and it is about to clot i will pull up a little clear water into it.It seems to help thin it out a little for me.

Better to clot than not. .:jumping-s

I do that too but at a certain point your rig fills up and theres no room for water let alone another register, god forbid you actually find a vein. Arggh, I hate that feeling.

I saw that Tui suggested aspirin, which is excellent to prevent clotting, but you say you don't always have this problem?? When you get a cut, do you bleed a lot, a little, or just an average amount? If you don't bleed much, an anticoagulant like aspirin works well (as does ibuprofen).

I'm not sure if thats too practical. The problem is blood clotting inside the syringe. It arises from people who have screwed all their veins up and cant find a good one. When you search around looking for a register right, sometimes you'll get blood inside the rig but not really be in a vein good enough to shoot. So you keep looking and the problem gets worse and worse. Its not really practical to dose aspirin 30 minutes prior to fixing and then wait for it to come on. Not to mention every shooter starts off thinking he/she is gonna hit first try. Its only after trying to go for it when the reality and frusteration sets in.

Sorry if I dumbed it down too much, I'm just not sure you're experience level with shooting so I thought I'd explain. Any suggestions are appreciated!

That makes sense. I'm not familiar with shooting, which is why I was trying to figure out if it was a problem with his bleeding at times other than that. Thanks! :-)
