i just watched this movie last night.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0424880/
wasn't anything horribly riveting or fantastic but it was a decent way to kill a couple hours.
junk was the subject at hand, which made it something that i could relate to.
pretty much the same old story - i really wasn't impressed with the way they criminalized the story's two main junkies.
i know plenty of junkies who aren't criminals(although it's true that i also know just as many who are).
but i guess it would not make for a very entertaining story if all the junkies did was go to work at a real job and then came home, got high and went to bed, huh.
anyways - the movie is available on OnDemand right now if you have Showtime OnDemand.
i think my favorite quote from the movie was a line from geoffrey rush's character:
"when you can stop, you don't want to. when you want to stop, you can't."
so true. :(

Lately the propaganda of heroin has really been pissing me off.
When ever they show someone on heroin they are on the sidewalk
STANDING UP and nodding. Who the hell does that.
Why dont they show the lawyers and doctors and nurses that are
addicted to heroin? Because they arn't what they WANT it to look
like, thats why. Just saw some show on Nat.Geo about heroin,
98% bullshit propaganda.

i hear ya man. that was my life before subs.
get up, get high to go to work, get high at work, come home and get higher, nod, repeat for days and months on end.
really not much different from anyone else's work day except for the getting high part.
even as an addict my life is/was very humdrum.
and yes pharmboy - there is plenty enough propaganda out there to keep the myths and misinformation rolling right along.

For real. Another really bad one was that movie Requiem For a Dream. What a giant Hollywood load of stinking shit. The mom goes into the lunatic asylum, the guy loses his arm, the black guy goes to prison (in the south no less,) and the girl ends up doing gang bangs for money (young girl is white and the guy who pimps her out is black.) No reason, no background, just lame ass, stereotype brain dead, mix it up and feed it to public slop. And the masses go to see it and think they are watching a documentary.
Of course what you were watching was a documentary only so one sided... Not sure which is worse.

Yea that movie was always over rated IMHO. I'll give it a few good merits though. Decent acting, some decent shots, and a amazing score. But the story, dialog, and whole feel and rythm (not the right word, timing, I dunno) just wasn't right in my opinion, ruined the film.
Anyone else agree?

I have not seen the movie yet, but the book "Candy" by Luke Davies was fucking excellent. When I heard they were making a movie based on the book I kinda figured they would find some way to fuck it up. From your reviews it sounds like they succeeded.

Nothings changed, they've just removed the point system, thats all I've seen changed at least, that and the removing of some folks, including staff.

I totally agree with most of what you said. I love the effects they use after they take a shot...showing it go in the vein and the pupils and stuff.
That movie's just too fucking depressing for me to watch, although I do own it. Scares the shit out of me sometimes...the majority of junkies don't go down those roads like they make it out, but it's not impossible. The stuff with the mom is a little out-there though.
