Ok I get methadone 10 mg pills 3 times a day for fibromyalgia from my medical doctor. In this nurses guide I have it says the wafers can only be prescribed by licensed detoxification or maintenence programs are they mistaken?

I got one of my doctors a couple years ago to prescribe the wafers and he was just a regular family practice doc. He might not have known what he was doing, but I got them filled ok!!!

regular family practice doctors cannot prescribe methadone for the purpose of either detox or maintenence programs, they can however prescribe methadone for pain managment.

Sure: they can perscribe them for pain...but they'd probably be suspicious of why you wanted them, since the little pain pills work fine, and are actually faster working, naturally...

Mallinckrodt makes the 40mg methadose wafers and roxane makes a 40mg wafer. they're a prescribed for pain. I've heard some clinics give some type of 40mg wafer but I'm not sure who makes it.

I have a friend who's pm rx'd her the wafers...Started her on 2 of the 40mg ones a day...Then within the very next month increased it to 3 a day...She always got the white ones though..But the pharmacy said that was due to the fact that there was a methadone clinic within 20miles that gave the orange wafers..The clinic called and asked them not to give the orange so if there was any diversion they would have an idea where they came from..So yes a doctor can write the orange ones for pain management..
