In the business section of the paper I saw that Impax Labs is
challenging Endo on the patent for Opana ER. WoW
So with a little luck for the little people ( don't hold your breath )
we will see generic Opana ( oxymorphone hcl ) soon. Of course
Endo claims it has patent rights untill 2009.
I would love to see the price on Oxymorphone take a tumble.
Keep your fingers crossed.

In my experience with OxyContin and it's generics, the slight difference between brand price and generic price isn't that great when compared to the quality of the pill. I would imagine it would be the same for Opana. When I got OC RX'd to me the difference in price was only $60 between brand and generic. I'll take the brand, thanks.

Weird, because 120 Generic 40's is about $550 (without insurance obviously) and Brand Name is $750.. Maybe thats just in my area. Also my pharmacist said that they won't be getting any generic oc after jan, the patent has been lengthened until 2011. fuck that noise, my insurance doesn't cover brand name drugs. I'll have to move back to fent or methadone, bummer. Or I can do a 4 times a day oxy IR thing, like 20mg of Oxy Ir every 4 hours equaling 80mg a day instead of 1 40mg contin every 12 hours.

This is true when dealing with a very "abuse friendly" Brand-Name, like OC, but I believe the general consensus with Opana (ER, not IR), is that it is very "abuse-proof". So it is possible, that a generic version will be more "abuse-friendly" than the Endo version.
Although, a stronger abuse-proof delivery system may be a good thing for a drug this potent. It sucks for the seasoned veterans, but for novice opiate-users, it may save alot of lives. There are kids that blow an
OC40 the first time they use opiates, and have no-ill effects, but 40mg of oxymorph? Pharmaceutical opiod OD's will skyrocket if an "abuse-friendly" Opana ER hits the streets.
(This is also assuming that the ROA is anything other than oral, which as we know with morphones is very low)

I agree, wafflehead. If that patented TimeRX delivery system is made generic, who knows what things may happen to other time-released drugs that aren't abuse proof. The MS Contin I shoot is just barely extracted, and I know of no way to defeat the Opana for injection, even the IR Opana.
I am afraid that the patented system will be made available to other drugs, because I know Purdue was trying their best to find something for their OxyContin to make it abuse-proof. I do think for the time being that the makers of Opana have found a very good method of keeping would-be injectors from injecting the oxymorphone in their pill. Again, I just worry that it may spread to other pills and that would not be good. As we Opiophiles have yet to find a way to safely and effective inject the oxymorphone from Opana products.

Personally, I don't think it'll matter if there is a slightly cheaper generic version of oxymorphone out there. The cash price is way too high for even that minor difference to switch those that are without insurance to it when there are so much cheaper options.
I like oxymorphone, there's no high/euphoria but there is good pain relief - which is fine for me because sometimes I need to focus on my work & I've got oxycodone(etc) for break through and the high/euphoria.

this is why they took oxymorphone off the shelves back in the day, to many ODs on the pills.....before there were tamper proof binders and such........Im wondering why its a patent challenge, as oxymorphone is an old old drug???maybe its because of the tamper proofing, they are trying to replicate that........

Really? I'd like to hear about that...I know of no one who has successfully defeated that time release system, so it would be nice to hear how some one did.

The kid who said it didnt seem to know much of what he was talking about and when we asked him how he defeated it he never replied back. I hope sooner or later someone figures it out.... until then you can always use the "let sit in a cup of water for 8 hours then evap to powder and bang" method.

Maybe some of our chemist types could check out this link :
http://www.opana.com/hcp/opana-er/durability/
It shows very basically how the TIMERx-N delivery system works.
Who knows though it might be enough for a breakthrough.:jumping-s

Damn, that TIMERx system is more complex than I thought...

"It needs heating to dissolve but is soluble in hot water."
Can the IR's be shot easily?

Mhm, I'm no expert, but on their webpage it said that after 21 hours, the matrix will have dissolved, and most of the drug is released. Does that mean that you can soak it for 24 hours, and then either shoot it, or let it evaporate and shoot?

They say a couple of times in the info not to drink any alcohol
or it may release a fatal dose.
Maybe soak in warm Everclear 24hr - evaporate - dilute w/ sterile water to
correct dose - shoot.

i just chewed an ER20 & feeling pretty good. who knows how long it will last though;)
I had posted awhile back about switching from OC's to opanas but I decided against it. I do agree though that the opanas are GOOD for pain releif & do last longer, they make me sleepy too though & that's not good. I am glad to have the extras I do though for nighttime when I don't wanna waste my good daytime b/t meds;)
lately I (umm I Mean SWIM) has been trouble getting a buzz off ANYTHING. Even tried snorting some OC20 err little nothing to write home about then another still nothing great. then a 40 & j ust got all sweaty (I know gross sorry!) at least this is giving me a nice warm buzzeroo. (at least this one time LOL)
ok sorry I'm babbling just an FYI. I gotta save most of me OC's for the pain releif I do desparately need. OH & the switch to the opana was not for me. They are expensive as FUCK even with the stupid discount card they give you for $25 off I still paid $75 with insurance. same as I was paying for my Oc's & now I have a card for them & only pay a $10 co pay which rocks! (plus the opana Dr. was a dick & didn't believe in breakthrough pain) HELLO? so screw that. fortunately my reg Dr. was fine & e ven upped my b/ts! (yippeeee)
now to find out how to get that buzzer to keep on ticking................:D

I don't know. I'm hoping that now they have all these other drugs, that just *maybe* these next PM appts I've got, I can ease the doc into perscribing me *hydro*morphone. At one time this was just impossible, before oxycodone and oxymorphone became dopefiend favorites...but I find these last couple times in ER and stuff, and during my hang-gliding accident hospital visit, that injectable hydromorphone, and even plain old dilaudids are not the main feared opiate by docs, they used to be... A boy can dream, can't he? Interesting that even places that have Heroin maintenance, often have hydromorphone as backup, or other alternative, to methadone or the beloved diamorphine....we'll see...

My Doctor suggested switching me to Opana from MS Contin yesterday but we both decided against it because he didn't think my insurance would pay for it. I should call the pharmacy before my next apt and ask if my insurance pays for it. But, if i get Opana i don't think he'd give me Roxi 15's and those help most with my pain.
Does anyone know if Social Security's various insurance plans bay for Opana, i have HealthNet part D i think. I think i can actually look at their website. Would it even be worth it to switch? Is Opana IR or ER?
I might be losing my prescription insurance anyway because i couldn't afford to pay the $215.00 deductable which is do this month. I'm gonna be screwed.

ive had opana one time. it was before i was into opiates really, i was just taking a vicodin here and there randomly at the time. a guy sold me this little red pill, and he didnt tell me what it was really just that it was bomb to snort, but to be carefull and just do a little. someone later told me it was opana when i showed it to them, but i didnt know what opana was back then. i snorted a 3rd of the pill, and i dont remember anything after that. the next day i was throwing up all day, itchy like a mother fucker. i was at work, customer service at the mall. people would come up and ask where a store was and id say "hold on. (throw up in the trash can), sorry, its over there." my boss was laughing at me, she thought i was hung over. technically i guess i was, but not from alcohol. and ive never come across it again.
id love to give it another try now that i have a tolerance. i hear its not really that euphoric compared to other opiates, but its great for pain. thats what i hear, anyways.
and on another note, couldnt you shoot them if you put them in water and let them do what theyre supposed to, dissolve slowly over time? the pill would think its in your GI tract, then when its all done couldnt you theoretically shoot it? just a thought.

OPANA ER TABLETS are to be swallowed whole and are not to be broken, chewed, dissolved, or crushed. Taking broken, chewed, dissolved, or crushed OPANA ER TABLETS leads to rapid release and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of oxymorphone.
thats from their site, idk doesn't sound very different than other opiates to me... and i've read the alcohol thing a lot too, just take 2 shots of vodka and crush one up and eat.
