Last night in cops I caught a good hour of following one DEA hack around the Portland area. So wierd watching it from the other end of the scene.
I remember getting off this train that runs right underneath a bridge in the main part of town to score. The dealers would fight over you, absolutely NO worry of getting caught, not even a care of something like that happening, or so I thought. Watching the man come down in an area like that has to be intense as a passerby. Seeing a whole force of guys just coming out of nowhere and grabbing everyone they can?
Man, one of my worst fears as a junky was having to kick in jail. I can't fucking imagine....

i just had the oh soooo lovely experince of kicking in jail over new years....and i had to deny it because the cops were trying to get me to admit i was using as part of what they were trying to bust me for...my poor friend who was with me was in the same boat and finally broke down and said she was withdrawing from methadone and all they did was treat her MORE like shit and gave her an advil and a tums...how kind huh? needless to say after i got out a few days later on bail(finally!!)i went back and got sooooooo high.LA cops are harsh...but the dope is good and most will deliever so you can sit on your ass and wait at home which now a days with my radar for trouble is the best thing that could happen to me!!!!

i remember those days. man, but kicking in jail and having to keep it quiet? can't be much worse... I'm luck to have never had to play that part.
i had this friend i was running with in portland, he was more junked out that anyone I've ever met. When i first met the guy, he was drooling all over himself, on the nod; i thought he was a retard. he ended up being my first good portland dope connection. he'd been in just about every northwest prison out there and was tattooed from head to toe. i tall, skinny guy, but not someone to mess with. David. that was his name. i he was already on the run, and even getting pulled over would land him back in prison - from being so high, every day, that you're a drooling retard, to chancing landing back in the can and having to kick with a couple of advil? nah, not for me.
it's people like that who i miss the most - those hardcore street junkies, who would never even have access to, let alone know how to use, a computer. damn near born into the drug/street scene and will never make it out.
i had started this project when i was there, junkylife.com. i never did as much with it as i would've liked. it would be great to get a few stories from the registered members here for it, but i really wanted to do a down and dirty cover of the scene, like lonny shavelson (http://www.photowords.com/hooked.htm) does with his work. too dangerous for me - that's where the good drugs are, but i can't say it would be easy to keep myself far enough away and still enough to do a decent job.....
