Does anyone know why the orientation literature from my methadone clinic states that patients on methadone should not take DXM? Is this because it would increase the effects or decrease them?

Also, what exactly does it mean when something is an agonist, antagonist, potentiator, etc... Thanks.

In my experience DXM potentates opiates (similar to other CNS depressants)

Potenator: enhancer
Agonist: Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agonist)
Antagonist: Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receptor_antagonist)

Thanks for the info. And now I feel stupid about asking for definitions when all I had to do was go look it up. I'm sometimes the laziest motherfucker out there. Sorry, and thanks again.

Its alright it happens to all of us but if you search potentiators you can get a whole list of them including dxm.
