I was reading this medical journal-type magazine while I was waiting for my take-out lunch order which was about a new 'addiction vaccine.' Well the 'vaccine' is called TA-CD and they made it sound like a 'cure' for cocaine addiction. The so called cure is supposed to act by binding to cocaine molecules in your system making them no longer able to pass through the BBB.

First of all, thats neither a 'cure' nor a 'vaccine' in my opinion. Just more of the same philosophy that produced Antabuse for alcoholics making them sick every time they take a drink. I'm going to cure you of your addiction by making it impossible for you to get high.

If anyone is curious, a google search for TA-CD turns up a bunch of articles. Does anyone see any merit for this drug in society?

sounds like every anti-drug drug i've ever seen....they only deal with the physical part of the body, but without willpower, or motivation of the person to actually want to quit, its useless.

i would smoke cigarettes every day despite being on the gum or lozenges, or patch, even though they tasted like shit.

I think that the wave of addiction vaccines coming to the marketplace are going to cause some problems down the line...
just a thought.

I remember when a doctor prescribed me effexor cause I quit heroin and was depressed, he said opiate addicts seemed to like it.

well, I got addicted to effexor, and was suprised at the opiate like withdrawls I had from it.
a few years later when stable, I found out that effexor and tramadol are basically very very similiar compounds,
and that both effect the serotonin, dopamine and OPIOID receptors...

now figure this, if they knew before hand that these compounds are so similiar, listed and presented in the merck index for criminys sake, wouldnt you think they might figure that effexor might have similiar pharmacology as tramadol.?

and then I remember how many doctors were describing tramadol a few years back, as a NON narcotic pain reliever with really no chance of addiction potential...
ha ha...

BULLSHIT...

both are great compounds in my opinion, when properly used by informed individuals with a penchant for researching what it is they are sticking in their bodys.....

now you got all these non junkies out there, that basically have become junkies cause they became addicted to effexor...
I met three people like this in just one class I took at college...all three became seriously addicted to effexor.

so when I look at the mostly stupid idea of a drug vaccine, I cringe with a foreboding of future suffering.

and one of them will probably be a great high anyway.
