View Full Version : A Lil' Concerta Warning

Ok, I know some here may play around w/Concerta. I was on it for probably a little over a year and took it as directed, never recreationally.

Well, for like the first half of this year I started having this weird issue where I'd have a sudden shock combined with heart palpitations at night, right when falling asleep.

At first I thought it might be panic attacks, because I've had those happen in similar circumstances. Doc thought it might be sleep apnea, but that wasn't it, either.

So, my p-doc decides to try a different stimulant w/me for reasons totally unrelated, and..LO AND BEHOLD....all of the weird heart shit stopped immediately!

Let me stress again that this stuff occured WHILE TAKING AS DIRECTED. If it can do that under those conditions, who knows what it might do to someone taking beyond the allowed dose for fun? If you're someone who does, *please* be forewarned...in fact, just don't even do it.

The pharmacist mentioned to me, as well, that they may be putting black-box warnings on it, or phasing it out of the market entirely. Not sure where she got that info and haven't verified it, though.

Anyways, just a heads up.

This is bad shit I think I've read that it is pretty highly toxic on par with amphetamines in terms of damage it does to the brain.

Doesn't take most people long to realize concerta isn't something to make recreation of.

Poeple, Methylphenidate is one of the safest stimulants in the world.
BUT ! Concerta is really something different.
I take 60mg of Methadone and one 36mg tablet of Concerta a day for almost a year now.
I also have the similar strange things with my heart because of Concerta.
It sometimes makes my hands shake. Also, during the evening, I feel like a slight heaviness in my chest.
When I lay down and cool myself down, I sometimes get a tic, like sudden movement of my leg or finger or hand.
But that's not so common, but it happens.
I have those side effects from Amphetamine and Methamphetamine as well. With those drugs they are much stronger. But with Concerta (Methylphenidate) they are minimal.
I guess I'm sensitive to stimulants.

That's why I cannot take it living anymore on this combo and that's why I asked my doctor to prescribe me Jurnista (24h OROS formulation of Hydromorphone), with the minimal dose of Methadone (20mg of it).

Heart palpitations? With Stimulants? Really?

Just kidding man but seriously you have to watch all stimulants for that kind of thing. It isn't just concerta that can fuck your heart up.

Voyager- I wasn't implying the drug was harmful, just that sought-after euphoric effects when used alone aren't really worth making a day out of. I enjoy a small line of cocaine every half hour to every hour on the days I do more opiated than allotted for maintenence and catch a nod. Helps me function, keeps my eyes open, and keeps me less irratible and more social as well. I'm not skiing, just a little cold, ya know.
