View Full Version : I'm Back, If Anyone Remembers...

Hello again everyone...

Let's begin by explaining what happened.
It's a simple story - I left my browser open and my fiance read my posts. It would have been the same if she barged in and I had a needle in my arm, but, luckily, that didn't happen. Long story short, we had a long talk, I disclosed my opiate abuse, she gave me the choice between her and pills, and, well, I haven't been here in awhile, so what do you think I picked?

More or less.

While some of my posts and stories were fancifull hyperbole, they were all based in truth. I abused alot of pills. I was able to fall ass-backwards into CII narcotics like I got paid for taking them. I stopped for a while, then, gradually, I started abusing my scripts again. But we've all heard this song and dance before, so moving on...

I'm back because I have a problem.
No, not that problem. I like to think of my opiate addiction as a personality quirk, not a problem.

Six weeks ago I moved - permenantly - to Chicago. I moved with four weeks of meds; five weeks if I was careful. So when I ran out during week three, I was a bit worried. I do use the meds to deal with real pain (and long rainy days when I have nothing to do). Following the advice of my pain doc from back home, I started looking for a doctor.

Three weeks and eight different appointments later, I sit here a broken man. I went from 30mg Oxycotin twice a day with three 15mg OxyIRs for breakthrough pain to three doctors offering Tramadol and nerve blocks, two doctors offering Norfelx and Flexaril, one doctor actually calling me a junkie (I told him to "Kiss my dick" and left), and two doctors offering Opana-based plans of action.

"Take the Opana!" you will say. Yes, that is the plan. Except my insurance doesn't cover it and I can not afford five hundred plus dollars in medicine costs a month. It would be cheaper to start riding a horse, if you catch my drift towards illict narcotics. It would also be cheaper to fly home every month, see my old pain doc, then fly back. Oh the things we do for a high.

But I digress. It's not just a high. It's, well, goddamnit, I hurt. I take more Aleve than recomended or even remotely wise. I use an inordinant ammount of Icy Hot. And if you're wondering how bad it really is - My totally antidrug finance, the one who threatened to leave me if I didn't stop abusing my meds has actually told me to go score. Moreover, she talked to our pothead neighbor about a hookup.

This sucks.

So I came back to the loving breast of you guys. I still lurked here and I'm glad to see alot of old voices still remain in the chorus. I guess if I can't find meds I will live vicariously through you.

So go, get high for my sake!

Well friend I hope that in the end it works out for you. Id say keep up the doctor shopping. Maybe even try a methadone clinic?? At least there you can more than likely find a connection...On top of helping you with pain and withdrawl

I don't think I've met you?
Just wanted to say hi.
Sorry to hear about your situation :(
Maybe switch insurance companies?
I'm on MEGALife
but I've heard bad news about em but they pay for SOME of my pills and one dr visit every 6 months.
Blah... never mind... its $180 a month.
I've also heard of COBRA on this forum but thats an employer insurance?
Do some research on insurance and maybe see if your doctor can recommend one? That is if he's a cool and open doctor.
Some are assholes.
One of my Drs used to be a prison guard for San Quentin Medical Ward. He doesnt like to give out meds-ugh. Hes young and weird. lol
Anyways I'm rambling (refill day hehe)
Best of luck to you
and no I didnt guess
Girl or Pills?
I'd choose pills.... they dont talk and make you happy:rolleyes:

Hello, welcome back- I remember reading a lot of your posts while lurking. Weren't you right in the middle of writing a "how to get anything you want from Doctor" ultimate guide? mmm
why wouldn't Opana plan doctors offer you a cheaper alternative? Though $500 a month isn't all that bad considering

Hey all, and thanks for the re-welcome.

Yeah GnD, I was working on a guide on how to work the system. I was a lot stupider a few months ago. Now I know how hard the system can fuck you.

The Opana Docs won't offer anything cheaper because of three reasons. One, their pockets are being lined by Endo Pharms who just got FDA approval to market Opana and are trying to make bank while they can. Two, pharmacies are in the same boat, and many in my area don't even stock pain meds from Purdue Pharms - like my favorite, oxy. And three, the current media buzz and bad press surrounding Oxy has made many Docs in my area too gun shy to script Oxy.

Or at least that's what I've gathered.

I ordered some pods to do some flower arrangements later this month, so that will hopefully relax me enough to limit my pain. Plus I called my old pain doctor and scheduled an appointment that - luckily - coincides with a trip home. So if nothing else he can script me then.

I can't switch insurance because I'm on Medicaid. It pays 100%, and as a poor graduate student with four or five doctors visits a month, plus the occasional surgery, I can't give that up.

I'll be better soon, now is just the starving season.

First : Dont take Alieve It doesnt work and will give you ulcers.

Next : Keep shopping there must be one doctor out there not
on the take. Buy the way Methadone is the cheapest
pain med. that works. But I would go back to the docs
that offered Opana and try and make them feel guilty.
. . Good Luck.

welcome back levity! i remember ya... i wasn't really posting back then but i remember reading your posts. hope you can find a decent doctor soon that hasn't sold his entire soul to the latest pharmeceutical rep to waltz through his door! no meds or meds no one can afford is a bullshit choice.

Any chance the doctor has samples to get you by for the first couple weeks? It's a long shot, but since it's a new med and they're being urged by the drug co to prescribe it???

I would certainly NOT give up on the quest for a doc in your new location....perseverance pays....trust me. I moved to AZ in 03 and it took me nickel and diming until this accident to finally put my thumb on a physician who is compassionate enough to look past my history and be willing to work with me to manage my pain.

In the meantime, there's the streets. Not the safest means to an end, however, you are in CHI-Town, enough said.

Good Luck, junkie.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes back. I missed you guys too.

As an update - I saw another doctor yesterday. He was a GP with a nice family practice a few blocls away from me. He basicly told me I was fucked. He's been in practice for twenty years in the Chicago area and told me with all the negative press surrounding opiates (especially the heroin/fent deaths in the area last year), Endo Pharms has really went after Chicago area doctors. Opana is being heavily pushed for pain.

Basicly, Oxy isn't being scripted by anyone in the city. Doctors are too scared. Hydrocodone is even being phased out in favor of Tramadol and lowdose Methadone.

He offered to write me a script for 30 hydro 7.5s, no refills. (His practice won't allow him to write CII narcotics or CIII with refills, or so he said.) I told him I really needed a referal and/or recomendation to a pain management doctor who can work with me. He promised to look into it, and call me with some ideas by Friday.

I'm flying home next week to visit my parents and have scheduled an appointment with my old pain Doc. If nothing else, I'm sure he'll give me a month's worth of my Oxy. I damn sure need it.

In the interim, I bought some Pods and am trying flower arrangement. It relaxes me enough that I can walk to classes, but I'm still miserable. We just had our first cold snap - down in the 40s this morning - and I wanted to die.

Stupid city.

That GP has what sounds like the rx writing guidelines
approved to the PA's around here. (Physician Assistant)

I know ZERO about Opana, haven't seen any reps pushing their gift inticements with Opana logos at any Doctor I've gone to...the appeal for prescribers must be a new patented non-abusable opiate. Is it available in both IR and ER formations and if not, what is rx'd for BTP while on it?

Opana has both ER and IR formulations.
The idea is that it is less abusable than traditional opiates, but in reality, it can be abused just like Oxy. Snorted, chewed, ect.

It's - I think - about two and a half times stronger than Oxycodone (Opana is oxymorphone, if I'm not mistaken, by the way). So you'll start seeing Opana ODs soon from people chewing or snorting the pills.

Hey Levity. I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles. Your Ms. was against your use, and then went out looking for a hook-up? Is she beginning to tolerate it, or does she still want you to stop?

This is my first night back in quite a few months. I'm on my live-in landlord's network, and he's an NA/AA member, so until now I've been too paranoid to come here (in fear that he monitors my web usage).
