Is bupe mainly being administered as a mainteance medication to most of you here taking it? Are any of you using it mainly to detox off of methadone maybe???

I've done alot of reading on bupe but here I can get the real shit straight from the people who are in the know. I'm wanting to ween off of methadone to say 30mg. then use bupe to ween off of the methadone as I've been reading how bupe has a much shorter withdrawal duration and I think I read its somewhat less severe as well...Am I wrong?

I cant afford methadone forever and I've only really been smoking H prior to methadone for 5 years or so... Haha! I said 'ONLY'. So given bupes withdrawal symptoms compaired to methadones which is worse and which is longer?

swim just did exactly what you are talking about doing yourself, but he had to make some executive decisions on his health care. his doc wants him to use it like a maintenance drug. (that's not much better than methadone in his eyes) That aint cool with swim so he has tapered himself quite a lot from what the doc says he should be on. The tapering went extremely well compared with methadone. Swim said he tapered from 12mg to 2 mg daily over about 4 weeks with almost no wds. He has had no cravings for the first time in almost 10 years and has felt virtually 'normal.' It's an incredible feeling, he says. He should be off it within the next month or so. Swim decided he could not get off methadone after failing repeatedly over years to taper off the shite. He'd get to 13mg and then things would get really tough. I have heard similar stories from others, with the only difference being the mg 'wall' they hit. For some it was 8mg; for others it was 20, etc., etc. Swim got down to 3mg at one point but felt like crap and couldn't stick to his guns. (pathetic, huh?) If you can get to 30, it seems like a worthwhile deal to me, but I would recommend that you try and get off it ASAP, as people here say it is a hard thing to kick.

Yes I agree with Cod . The one caveat I would suggest is to make sure and get Subuteex rather than Suboxone and be at 30mgs or less of Meth ! Lukilu

I have never been on methadone, but I have been on suboxone (currently just switched to subutex) for the last year and 1/2. I have weened myself down to 1 mg a day, and I just cant seem to break that last dose. My best advice would be to use the subs to get off the methadone as fast as possible, w/out having to get addicted to the subs. If you can your set, In my opinion these sub w/d's are just as bad as anything other opiate w/d.
