Questions About Demerol

I really don't think I've ever got to try demerol, one of the few prescription opioids I haven't tried (at least that I can remember, maybe I did do one tablet with methadone years ago, someone gave me a mystery opioid pill but it may have been morphine or another brand of methadone, but I can't be sure). now I've always heard it is shit, maybe this is because it isn't that great for pain compared to morphine and other opiates/opioids, maybe because you need to take high doses, maybe it is because of the possible neurotoxicity and seizures that can happen, etc. etc. I've read that it sucks but then I've also read it was more likely to cause euphoria than other opioids, I don't know what to believe. BUT I did read that demerol is a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, can someone compare its stimulant effects to say something like ritalin? I've also heard it effects serotonin and can sometimes cause serotonin syndrome. it of course has anticholinergic effects and also has local anesthetic effects. I'm a fan of stimulants and synthetic mu agonists anyways so this has gotten me more interested in pethidine. of course it wouldn't be good to use in high doses or for an extended period of time and there is probably no chance I'll see this anytime soon it still fascinates me just as lefetamine does, combining stimulant and opioid effects in a single drug. I can honestly say I can't really ever recall anyone ever selling or having a steady prescription for demerol but I know people who have gotten it in the hospital usually as one time IM shot.

I've had it both in the hospital after my car accident and also prescribed when I left. I can tell you this...I WAS IN AGONY before they gave me Demerol, and when they finally gave it to me, I was able to finally sleep because my pain was gone. I've heard it's better for sleep than other opiates so what you said about being a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor might be false, but I don't really know. Most people I've talked to say that Demerol is good for sleep (me included).

When they gave me the script for oral Demerol (well, Mepergan Fortis which is Demerol and Phenergan) that stuff was pretty potent (50mg meperidine/25mg promethazine). I would much rather have that any day than hydrocodone or even oxycodone. I also have shot the Demerol from the pills and it's always made me nod out and go to sleep (the Phenergan doesn't help matters either :))

So people are all different. I myself prefer Demerol over hydros and oxys, but that's me. I do know you can't use it for extended periods because of what you said earlier. Plus a toxic metabolite of meperidine gets produced in the liver and builds up when you use it too frequently.

I have been addicted to Demerol (years ago)
I cant say I noticed ANY stimulant properties to it.
It was some of the best euphoria I ever had but
that was when my tolerance was close to zero.
And after awhile it will give you involuntary
muscule jerks,probably close to a convultion.
I liked it,ALOT, but if you have any tolerance at all
it takes to much to get in tune. Thats my take on it.

ive had it once, in the hospital, an IV shot 50 units (cant say how many mg that is). i didnt tell them i was already high on heroin so i started puking. but like others said it didnt seem to have any stimulant properties to it at all, and was quite euphoric. i thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is also one that I've never tried for some reason. I heard it is the more "psychedelic" prescription opioid. I hear about alot of people in healthcare getting hooked on it. Like, more than I hear about people getting hooked on other shit it seems. It must be pretty good if all those docs are using it on themselves has always been my thought. Is there a good rush IV?

The rush is better than morphine, in my opinion. Not better than hydromorphone (Dilaudid) but definately better than morphine.

Nice drug IV or oral.

pethidine's oral bioavailability is only 50-60% so injection is obviously a more effective route of administration. any info on if people snort it? I've read pethidine does not cause pupillary constriction either. it definitely acts as a dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, see "The cocaine-like behavioral effects of meperidine are mediated by activity at the dopamine transporter". European Journal of Pharmacology 297 (1-2): 9-17. (January/February 1996).
look at this Because of its DAT inhibitory action, pethidine will substitute for cocaine in animals trained to discriminate cocaine from saline.

damn, thats crazy. and i dont doubt it at all, after all the doctor who studies how it affects the brain is much smarter than I. but still, i dont recall any stimulant like effects from it at all. i remember wanting to sleep.

oral is very low in bioavailability and does nothing for me, snoritng is better but burns like all HELL, worse than MDMA! IV is the best method like if you were in the hospital and got a straight up demerol shot.

I once took like 400mg of meperdine orally, and felt almost np effect....I was highly addicted to oxycodone at the time, and it did keep the w/ds at bay until I got some more oxy.....W. Burroughs wrote that while it was good for short periods of time, prolonged use wasn't a good thing.....I think they only administer it IM in hospitals......also that was Anna Nicoles DOC.....later

I said that it was good IV or orally...meaning that if you didn't IV the next best method would be oral. Snorting would be bad because of the burn and I don't think pethidine/meperidine/Demerol is as effective as oxycodone when administered intranasally. Of course if you have a tolerance then it's going to be higher than normal.

My wife had 20 or so of these left over from her boob job. Took a couple one night when my back was acting up (I was also not taking anything at the time) and my back felt better and I slept HARD. I remember the high not being all that great but it sure did what it was supposed to do.

I believe you jonny 5, the dopamine reuptake inhibition may depend on the dose or it just might not be that strong of one; another possibility is that its opioid effects (which also effects dopamine, but indirectly) overpower any stimulant effects it might have from inhibiting dopamine reuptake.
