this is literally the bleeding edge, the last 4 to 6 months i have become an itcher to the point of bleeding and them picking scabs mostly all in my sleep or close to it. ihave been using off or on since 70 at levels of extreme iver of nam or thai white to just a couple vico aday. the last year has been mostly vicoden , some tea, some talwin, some ultram, some opium eating . habit wise not really maybe if you call 15 mg. a habit i dont. anyway somebody got a cure for the itches that i never had before when i was using excessivly. itching confined to mostly arms and hands . valium seems to help but dont want to add that to the mix daily. i am 53 is that it
I itch too... especially at my elbows. I usually just rub some lotion on or take a shower and use one of those expoliator things to get rid of the dead, dry skin. Then put lotion on after I get out.
Every try benadryl (diphenhydramine - generic) for that?

I LOVE itching, but it sounds like you've gone beyond the enjoyable phase by far

Ahhhhh. The itching. I loved itching too. I would itch my face so much it would be like a spa treatment.
On the down side that there is one thing that will get you caught. Being in a nod itching, and scratching can be difficult to explain away.
I know people that used Benadryl, and it worked for them, but personally I never used it. Being 53 though I don't think has anything to do with it. Good thinking though.

Johnson's baby oil helps also - mine was just dry skin - my ankles are a bleeding mess - but God, the scratching feels so good! Use both - I think lack of water intake bedevils us all - you don't realize you're getting dedydrated. Drink lots of water or ice water, prefer. with lime juice. (Ading the acid later in the day ups the ante on the pods.)

The itch is an integral part of the opiate experience.... but it does go too far sometimes... i have always used benadryl to help...helps a lil... not much tho... Don't scratch directly on skin...through a t-shirt helps relieve the skin from being scratched away...
also try rubbing ot scratching with finger tips....not nails...
that helps me.

ok so the benedryl seems to have worked well i just dont know why after all these years the itch got me, over the years ive seen many people excessively itching and yes i have enjoyed the many pleasures of itching , vitamin deficincy, the ol lady change laundry detergents, fabric softener, different soap in the shower ect. ect . ect . what the hell generic diphenhydramine is cheap.save the valium for when i really need it thanks for the suggestion

my itching can get really bad during the winter - both from the opiates and my severely dry skin. I use copious amounts of moisturizers and lotions all the time, and it does the trick usually. The worst is when I get the opie-itchies badly and because of my ultra sensitive skin i leave red scratch marks on my neck. Damn fake nails, they sure don't help.

"MILK THISTLE" Besides being Great for maintaining a the health of your Liver (Especially for those of you eating Vic/percs or any thing with tylenol or asprin or drinkers).(Supposedly it is one of the only things known to help save your liver if you eat a deathcap Aminta Mushroom-but thats just something i read i dont know how true that is[and another forum]).
The first time i heard of this Herb was at a friends whouse who used it for the itchies (though he said it takes away slightly from the buzz but im Not sure how true this is).
Another friend of mine used it for itching also.
other than those two peeps i never heard it anywhere else.
Also look up the herb Licorice.
Peace.
Ahhh the itchies.. I like to get a hair brush, or give one to my wife, and go to town. Feels sooo good!

Man, my girlfriend (who didn't know about my use for a year) used to always comment that I was getting "dry skin" again. This was because I was scratching my nose so hard from opiates that the skin would get a little ruffled... never did solve this problem, tried everything.

About twice a week I take a hot bath with 2 cups of Epsom Salt in it. It is good for relaxing muscles and drawing toxins from the body, and it is made of the mineral magnesium sulfate which is also a sedative for the nervous system. It reduces swelling, is a natural emollient, exfoliator, and I have noticed that I don't itch as much b/c my skin is not as dry and flaky. I still use Benadryl though. I figure it can't hurt and so far it has helped a great deal. Hope this helps:)

As soon as the itching starts, rub Tee Tree oil on the skin, let it dry and then apply lotion. Look for a lotion containing Comfrey, Calendula, and Oatmeal. You should be able to easily find lotions containing those ingredients at any natural foods store. Tiger balm also works great and don't forget good ole Calamine lotion! If you have problems itching in your sleep or nodding out you can always wear mittens or socks on your hands to prevent cuts and scrapes.

i dont really know if taking all those antihistamines at once is all that good for you or not.i know swim usually does benadryl 25mg(anything more will put him to sleep) and it works pretty good.
1. The "itchies" affect users of oral narcotics above moderate doses and can be reduced in intensity by taking a tablet of clemastine furmarate (Tavist), the new non-drowsy anti-histamines Allegra or Claritin, or meclizine hydrochloride (Dramamine II) an hour before taking the dose of opiates, then using an old fashioned drowsiness producing antihistamine with moderate to strong anticholinergic action like diphenhydramine (Benadryl), dimenhydrinate (Original Dramamine), or brompheniramine (Dimetapp) to boost the effect of the opiate, and using topical creams containing antihistamines to knock down the worst itching. The itchies can be intensified by the inert and non-psychoactive ingredients of cough syrups coming out of one's pores and being deposited on the skin, so having a shower if you are not too blasted to walk a straight line can be a good idea in the middle of a long hydrocodone run. Codeine is for most people the itchiest narcotic.

I have never found the itchies from opiates unbearable, in fact like others have said the itching is almost pleasurable. I'm forever scratching the fronts of my shins, sometimes to the point of drawing blood!
Anyway what I was going to say is that anyone who suffers from unpleasant itching should try some sort of over the counter antihistamine (as stated in previous posts). I caught chicken pox some years back off one of the kids and it really knocked me for six physically but the itching was unbearable I had spots in unmentionable places which all itched like crazy! Anyway someone recommended that I took the same sort of antihistamine pills that folk with hay fever take (I can't remember the brand name was)
It was like a Godsend, totally took all the itching away and made me slightly drowsy as well (pre opiate days). I imagine it would work on prickly heat, or itching from sunburn too which are equally unpleasant!! I

I to have gotten a really bad itch of late. And like yourself I tear my flesh rite off my forearms especially when sleeping.Strangley is the only place I get it is my forearms. It looks herrific so much so that I keep my forearms covered.
But the remedy thats working for me 'phenergan 25mg'and 'aristorcort cream'which needs to be prescribed, its main use is for ezama and phsorisis sufferers.
I take 2 phernergan 25mg in morning and 3 before bedtime. As far as the cream I apply it 3 times a day.And is working better than I expected. The sores are nearly gone,I think that the cortizone cream has helped the most.Good luck

I've always thought that it was likely that Diphenhydramine would help with naseua, being so closely related to Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) and all, but I haven't really noticed this to be true in me. Benadryl will also cause a Dissociative Anesthetic type trip in high doses just like Dramamine although it has more of a drowsy quality to it, I never really got into that OTC drity trip kick anyways.

Hey DD, why is it some of the bastards on this site are referring to you as some sort of ancient bastard, when in truth you're only 53?
WTF? I'd begun to build a picture of some madassed octagenarian with handcuffs and a hatchet, but it's not true, you're just a youngster!
I say they're all ageist bastards.
(Sorry it took me since November 2005 to read this).
Doc D (the other DD, but not nearly as good)
Yeah Man,sorry this is late and I hope by now you're better. If not I have eczema(sic?) so I know how much of a hassle this can be .If nothing else works and you mostly scratch at night try taping plastic bags over your hands.I know this is pretty drastic, but it works.

Anybody else have extreme itching on the back of their knees. It's getting worse for me.
I had a scab on the back of my left knee and the other day, while very very high, I scrathed the shit out of it. Now the scab is much larger and makes it very difficult to walk. I've been applying Neosporin like a mutherfucker but it just sucks. A large scab on a part of your skin that has to bend in order for you to walk is a bad thing. I don't recommend it.
I've never had to not scratch an itch before and oh man is it hard. It's almost orgasmic when im feeling just right.

Yeah, milk thistle is GREAT for your liver. It is currently the only treatment for eating a Amanita mushroom and that says a lot, I think. If you have any type of Hepatitis, milk thistle is your best friend.
I have noticed when I used to take milk thistle, that is would take away from your high just a little bit with any drug. I think it has to do with the fact that your liver metabolizes every drug you put in your body and by your liver working more efficiently (milk thistle makes the liver create and repair the cells in your liver exponentially) that drugs are metabolized faster and more efficiently, making your high not as high. That's the whole reason I quit taking milk thistle, because it was interfering with my high.

If you have an "understanding" partner, getting them to give you a nice back scratch while your itching can be a great way to fall into a wonderful nod.
