Its been 8 days since I missed a shot in my arm. I think I poked through the bottom of the vein. Theres no swelling or discoloration in my arm but the pain is still there. Its not as bad as it was a week ago but I don't remember it lasting so long. Could it be infected, but not show on the outside because its so far under the skin?

Ok I know there are tons of post about a missed shot of tar, but I'm going to post anyways. So I usually don't shoot, but the other day my friend hit me in the bend of my arm. She got some in the vein, but it seemed maybe she poked through the bottom of the vein and got some of the shot out of it. I know she missed because it started to sting like a bitch and then swelled up and got red and blotchy. Well its been 8 days and I still feel a little pain in my arm. Theres no discoloration or bumps or bruises in the spot, and the pain seems to be going away slowly. I'm wondering if its a bad infection and I can't see it because its in the middle of my arm and not on the outside? Do missed shots hurt for this long? I'm sure most will say see the doc, and I prob will, but I still would appreciate any thoughts on the matter....
Morf, OK, you are thru the worst of it. If the area is not red or hot and you aren't running a temperature, then you don't have an infection. If it was infected on the "inside" you would see it on the outside and the pain would not be going away. Consider yourself lucky. I am sure of this. Tonyk

You can put a needle in a number of different types of tissue that can take a long time to heal. You could have missed close to a tendon or even put the needle in one, those will take forever to heal.
But as was said earlier, no signs of infection generally means you will be all right.
Let's hope it's just soft tissue damage, but 8 days seems a long time.
IF it hurts more, doesn't improve or get's hot or discoloured......GET TO A DOC.
Believe it or not.....you can't grow another arm, man.

sometimes when i sshoot and don't miss a drop
my skin gets all white and blotchy and rashy around the injection site
it lasts about half an hour
burns like a bitch!
so i getcha
it could be from using a dirty needle
(that includes using your own over and over again)
at least that's what my friends are always telling me
if you watch what the fuck you're doing
and use a fresh needle every time
(although that's not always possible, i know, i know)
you'll get less tissue/skin damage
and less burny blotchy hurtiness all around

^^ The only time I get white blotches is when I miss, period. Sometimes the injection site can get red and blotchy even after a good hit, but in my case this rarely occurs.
For the OP: I hope your arm is feeling better! You should be OK. Let us know please.

If you're getting a histamine reaction without missing any of the shot, it's most likely from having some heroin solution on the outside of the needle from drawing up the shot. Try rinsing the needle off after drawing up your shot, but before inserting it into your body. This should fix this problem. The only other thing I can think of is if you're shooting with the tourniquet still tied on your arm. In this case, the pressure inside the vein could be forcing a small amount of the drug back out through the hole created by the needle, thus resulting in the histamine reaction. Only things I can think of that could cause a histamine reaction like this without missing any of the shot.

On that note:
Shooting with the tourniquet still tied is bad on the veins, I think we all know that. I personally ALWAYS untie whenever I'm confident I'm well inside of a good vein. But there are many times, out of fear of missing or losing my position that I shoot still tied off.
Does anyone else ever feel that way? Like, fuck it 'There is no way I'm going to do anything to fuck this shot up, I finally got a register I'm going for it!'
Sorry to HJ the thread, just got me thinking!

Guys,I'm an idiot.....ALWAYS UNTIE BEFORE YOU PUSH THE PLUNGER.

oh yeah, i think i've said those exact words already! with my crappy little girlie-veins, i always try to untie before the push. but there's been plenty of times that i just could NOT chance it... but i always at least untie before i pull the needle out then. no sense in squeezin a drop of that hit back out the hole before i release the pressure! i want every last molecule i can get in my bloodstream!

Ya, I hear ya on that one sister! But then again, shooting tied off probably allows alot of shit to escape through the hole around the needle anyway (due to the pressure). But you are right, I always untie before I pull out the needle. :)
My mom says she NEVER used to tie off. I am envious. She showed me how she would just rest her leg on her arm (almost grabbing it with the the back of her knee) and then shoot her hand. Easy-peezy-Japaneezy. Not so easy for me, I tell ya...
'But Mom, the veins in my hand roll too damn much. They need to be nice and plump and well tied off for me to get a hit'
'Oh just spread your skin with your thumb and middle finger and tap the eyedropper with your forefinger.'
'Eyedropper?!?!?!? I haven't seen works like that except in old movies and shit like that. I use the disposable 1cc insulin rigs.'
"What happened to the glass eyedroppers, you just use a dollar bill for a gasket, much easier and less incriminating than carrying around rigs."
Ah, must have been alot different in simpler days...
