Please, Please, Please, someone answer this post even if the answer is no! I hate when I post and in the responses column there is a big fat zero!!! It makes me sad!:sad-smile Do any of you on meth notice that since you started taking it that food tastes funny? I have started to have some pretty bad food aversions...like to the point of gagging!!! Everything, including my favorite foods, taste and smell weird now! Am I nuts(well, of course I am nuts, but you know what I mean!), or has this happened to any of you guys????

I also have noticed that I have major indigestion/heartburn. I have been eating tums and rolaids like there is no tomorrow! Has anyone tried the new Rolaids soft chews in the Vanilla Creme flavor? They are so good!! I had to stop buying them because I would take one for my stomach, then eat the whole pack just because they were so yummy!!

Anyway, I just wanted to know if any of you have experienced any of these things since the start of Methadone. I'm just debating whether or not it is something I should have the Dr. check into or if it is just par for the course of MMT! Thanks, guys!!!:D

Yes I too am using alot of Tums™ and Rolaids™ everyday about 1/2 and hour after dosing it hits me and its everyday almost. Heartburns must be from the methadone. Foods only taste funny or unappealing whenever I'm using the other meth....(the amphetamine one). Which I must say ispires alot of my heartburns too but I dont wake up to any amount of meth(crank) on the daily basis like I do with methadone.

I bet you the methadone dr. will tell you its not the methadone. As they seem to believe that methadone aside from being extremely addictive, has no adverse side effects. BS!!! There had got to be a better drug by now for god sakes hitlers chemists invented the stuff. It takes 50+ years to develope a half-handfull of alternatives??? Someones not really trying or is it we patients these medications are intended for lack the voice to get the results we desearve and need. I read somewhere that the methadone industry kept buperenorphine from getting the FDA's approval for more than a decade.. Why?? Greed?? Genuine Concern?? Yeah I bet thats what it was..

Yes. Two people I know on Methadone which are both women have had to get upper GI's. They've chalked it up to the ol' "Once I get clean I fall apart" catagory. My one friend says she knows it's the methadone, but in no way is she going to complain because she's thrilled. I don't know about the wierd taste thing though. I will ask for you though.

Since I got clean I get wierd smells. Or I can smell things a mile away. I feel like I'm a super hero whose power is smelling. I guess I picked it up through dope, and detox. Who knows? All I know is that if there's a gas leak five blocks away I can save the neighborhood.

If you dare give this a try. Get some apple cider vinegar. Put a tablespoon or two in water, and gulp. I swear to you it will help with the acid. As for diet be glad because every female I know who went on methadone tripled their weight. I don't mean from dope weight either. Prior. Hope you eat better. Feel well.

when I stay up for more than 2 days... my wires start to cross and food tastes TRIPPED out! When I am on opiates... I don't sleep much at all... maybe this is happening to you?

I have no clue what is going on with me!!! The only thing I know is that everything smells and tastes disgusting! Thank goodness my husband does the cooking, because I would be standing over the stove wretching!!! Take pork, for instance! It was cooking and I almost puked. It smelled like very strong urine (and no, it wasn't bad!!!) and I was sooooooo grossed out!! The only thing that I have been able to eat these past three weeks is powdered donuts!! Which is very weird because B.M. (before methadone..lol!) i couldn't eat donuts because they GAVE me heartburn! Now they seem to be the only thing that sits right..oh yeah and orange juice! I never thought that something so acidy would make me feel soooooo much better!!!

Being I feel so sick with the food, the only logical thing to do is give it up and feast on opiates instead!!! Damn it, why is there not a drive-thru open late for a super-sized norco, oxy,codeine,fentanyl and the like!!! Now, how would that be for convienience:D (I think I spelled that wrong and I haven't downloaded the spell check thingy yet..sorry)

It is now 12:44am..off I go to the 24 hour dunkin donuts for my powdered donut!!! I think I'd rather have the value-menu opiate!!!

Rudeboyses..not to personal!! I'm on methadone for oiate addiction! I had a near fatal overdose in July (we are talking flatline and respirators!). I had to do something. I went thru rehab, but I knew that without Methadone, I wouldn't stay clean...so here I am!!! Weird food adversions and all!! LOL:D

I understand exactly what u mean. I suffer from both heartburn/indegestion and food not tasting right.

A few years ago when I was on 190mgs (brown syrup 5mgs/1ml) I suffered 24/7 severe totally unbarable heartburn/indegestion, to which no medications offered any relief but now that I'm only on 50mgs (biodone red liquid 5mgs/1ml) only suffer moderately but can remedy with antacid quite effectively. Personally I find that peppermints are the way 2 go these days (I still use antacid on those real bad occassions though) mostly because I'm sure that constant long term use of antacid couldn't be good for us.

As for food tasting differently, I used 2 eats heaps of sweets but methadone turned everything bitter and off tasting. When I was only large doses I hardly kept anything down at all (I managed 2 continue 2 pile the weight on though). Now at a much lower dose I'm not so nausious but I have had 2 change my eating habits (mostly from sweet 2 savoury) because everything changed so much. Not 2 mention my matabolism, there is no way I could eat the way I do off methadone. I gain so much weight no matter how good I eat.

Well I hope you work out ur way of dealing with these side effects without 2 much bother, I suppose I've learnt 2 (having no choice as I'm now on it 4 cronic back pain). The methadone program can be a really good start 4 some people, so best of luck with it. Hope it's what u've been looking 4.

I don't know if it's available in Australia, but Prilosec OTC gave me my sanity back. I had CHRONIC indigestion and acid reflux at times just about all of my life. I actually thought that it was normal and that everybody had it for the longest time. Now I NEVER get heartburn, indigestion or acid reflux and it's like being born again. As long as I can afford it (about $0.50 US/day), I'll be on it everyday. Just one pill a day, no more gastro woes for me. Much better than eating handfuls of Rolaids or Tums or taking baking soda (that's what I'd use when it got REALLY bad) all day long, every single day of my life. If you can get it, try it. They say it takes up to 4 days to work, but I got releif the same day. Your results may vary, but give it time and take it religiously, and I can guarantee it'll help. My dad (who must have passed the gastro probs on to me) had the same problem, and he's been on Prilosec longer than I have, with the same good results! Doubtless, we'll both be on it until we die.

I got off of Methadone several months ago, now on Morphine, but I don't recall any difference in the way things tasted, even when I was on 130mg/day. Since I was about 13, I've just loved almost ALL foods, and there are very few things I don't like to eat. Actually, I can't recall ANY drug ever changing the way food smelled or tasted, but that's just me...

No Heartburn at least not from Meth thank g-d. I'm Tums all the way Extra strengh, Constipation yes ( up the wazoo ). I smoke so everything tastes like an ashtray maybe your getting your taste back. those zeros sure do suck its like what the heck is wrong with me I'm not Dope enough for ya.

I'll have 2 ask my doc about Prilosec OTC next time i c him. Thanx 4 the info. I was just wondering what dose of morphine u r on n if u think it's better or same as methadone. I don't have that choice here in Oz but i am curious just the same.

Well, I got so sick of the clinic system we have here that I just quit. At the time, my signifigant other was getting methadone for pain, so I shared some of hers and weaned down to about 30mg/day. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. A few months ago, the doc switched her to Morphine, which is MUCH better for pain with the added benefit of a buzz. She doesn't need as much as she gets to control the pain (multiple sclerosis), so we share it just like the methadone. I realize it's not exactly legal, but what are you gonna do? I've been trying for years to get medication for bad back pain from an accident 20 years ago, but for some reason I can never get a doctor to believe that I hurt that bad, and I've tried all kinds of things. If you read some of my other posts, you'll gain a little more insight about the whole mess.

Right now, I'm using about 130mg Morphine per day, and it works wonders!

I stink... EVERYTHING STINKS!!! It's so strange and nasty, and only ever happens when I first beggin WD's.

When I'm sick, all my sences are hightened, if I eat, I can individually taste every speck of salt, pepper, fat, meat etc, so much so that it's unberable.
I can't bear to be touched- A cuddle feels like it will break all my ribs and my spine... The noise of the fridge in my bedroom, or the rain outside sounds deafening... Any kind of light seems like I'm staring into the midday sun.

Yea I've got a pretty good idea of what ur going through. I had a bad back from an accident myself before this injury. I was on morphine when I was in hospital and it worked wonders. I wish I could get a doctor to go into bat for me now but that just isn't going to happen anytime soon. So for me I just have to stick with the methadone (side affects or not) and just try and console myself with knowing that it's better than nothing. I hear that it can be quite difficult to get on a program over there. Hence the reason you just take ur girlfriends I suppose. I just wish that I could take morphine now and get some adequate pain relief without all the extra side affects.

Some days the slightest exertion like washing up hoovering or walking the dogs results in me dripping with sweat, which is nasty, unpleasant and embarrassing when everyone else is wrapped up for the cold weather and I am visibly sweating like a pig. I know lots of other junkies who don't seem to have this problem, but wonder if it could be down to a combination of drinking too much (lager 6-8 cans daily 4.5%strength), my heroin and meth use and the anti depressant amyltriptiline.

Is that something to do with taking amitrip (plus shedloads of codeine and tramadol) or is it just fibromyalgia?

Hiccuping

I noticed this with Fentanyl....Before i went on MMT i was eating tons of Patches...and i would have Hiccups everytime i would eat Food....

Then once i started MMT i have the same thing....Whenever i eat i always get Hiccups....

I normally get medicated around 8am every morning i also always have a cup of coffee with 1/2 & 1/2 and about 10 sugars.....and The other thing i noticed that happens is if i dont eat anything before or after dosing (besides my morning Coffee) around 11:30am -12pm i get extremly nauseus and end up Puking.......This is only if i dont eat anything in the morning....otherwise im fine...

I dont sweat for no reason...but if i start moving around just a little bit....like cleaning up...of if i actual;ly do some labor or sports.... I sweat like a MOFO like i have never sweat b4...and it takes quite some time to stop sweating.....even after i sit down and relax...i will just stay sweating...its like my body doesnt cool down as fast as it used to b4i was on Metha Don...

The One thing that i do LOVE about being on the Don...Is the Great Sleep i get through out the night....i have NO PROBLEMS sleeeping anymore...
But waking up in the morning does Sux....My Joints are all stiff and they hurt too..., every morning i feel like the Tin Man from the wizard of OZ at 85 years old looking for some WD40.. first I move my fingers and in my mind i just imagine hearing Sqweeeeak errrrrrrScreeetch....

I'm the same way for some reason, my stomach is all fucked up and I always have heartburn and other digestive problems. I've had this with other opiates too not just the dones.

In answer to a two yr old thread; yeah I've heard and had friends on 'done that say the food isn't the same or tastes aren't the same as before.

'Done just bad stuff all the way around, imo.
OK for short term, as in a couple days, high - party fun buzz - get the house clean - kind of thing. But fuck being the slave that it makes you.

Yeah like any of the other stuff I'm hooked too is better....:rolleyes::rolleyes:
